Will restoration orbs be inside chests?

Will players find "quest" chests that must be carried around locked, until the means of unlocking is found? Such as defeating a boss maybe, or until enough "souls" are harvested...

Will character abilities play a role in opening chests? For example, a barbarian may smash a box open, but a witch doctor may attempt to blast the lock off. A poor barbarian may break the chest (and its contents) into a dozen pieces, while a better one may cleanly slice the top off. A witch doctor may break the latch, or blast the chest sky high. A necromancer who doesn't properly jinx a lock may awaken ancient curses on a piece of gear. etc.

Will runes/charms/gems/other magicks be needed to open certain chests?

The wooden storage box is a bad cliche that started in the D&D days. If you look at how many wooden boxes a typical dungeon romp has, you would think that chest making was the largest industry in the world! Not only that, but monsters (or people!) would probably not go into town to purchase 300 locked chests to store their goods. Monster held treasure would be more likely buried, hidden in cracks of caves, protected with magical seals, traps, or elaborate death vaults designed to keep all life out, or be simply on their person.

Chest is made to protect something precious, especial if Locked !. In Diablo 2 there was way to much useless chest and it was realy annoying. Chest wasnt something particular or rare.

Most of the time from chest you were getting something realy crappy like cheap white or gold.

What would be fun for diablo 3 is that the chest should be realy rare and we should work for it. Solve a puzzle, beat a boss and press on a special button on a wall, secret. It drop should be at least one rare or some gems or alot of gold, witch I hope worth something in D3

I kind of like this idea. Having less chests, needing to do something in order to get at it..... hehehe.... i really like the sounds of that, and with better loot than just usless stuff that i end up selling just because. I do like the sounds of that.

Currently there are no locked chests, and it's not something we're looking to reintroduce for now. We have discussed varying chest quality and types, adding randomness not only to the appearance of a chest but also the value of items it may drop or possibly specifically what types of items it's guaranteed to drop. Mix it up a bit and make finding a chest exciting, but make finding a special chest something even rarer and more exciting. It could certainly make exploring the entire floor of a dungeon more compelling before moving on.

I think chest only uniques would be interesting, and keep it real.. like jewelery.. something that would actually be put in a chest.. not a lochaber axe or something.

Trapped chest have been around since the dawn of time. Why they don't have them in WoW is beyond me. And yes, chests should be locked with different methods of opening them. Further, there should be the concept of hidden chests or hidden loot containers/compartments.

Keys were just a waste of bag space. Like not only did we get very little bag space to carry all the charms/pots/drops, but we have to carry the freaking keys just to get worthless whites and a crap load more pots which take more bag space.

I just started up D2 for the first time (i played D1 a lot back in the old day) and after completing the first quest and heading back to town i think i found about 8 chest, most with gold or potions or scrolls, and one with a blue, or rare, or unidentified, whatever you wanna call it.

12.5% strike rate on non crap drops suck. Clearly i've got a good sample size to go on. I didn't fail stats at all. Shoosh.

I quite like the skill system too. It seems a lot more flexible than WoWs does. Of course in WoW most of your crap is trained, but the talent trees in WoW are incredibly rigid in how you must plan your spec. Diablo 2 feels like you have options, in WoW you don't really have many options at all. Far too many things are completely mandatory.

Of course this sentiment could all change once i get past level 3-4 or whatever. But i like it so far.

I once found a chest in NM Act 3 that dropped 8 rares. I promise you I'm not makin that up, I watched it happen and thought it was absurd. I'd put SS up, but that kind of thing would be easy to fake, so no point. Think I vendored them all anyway, but was still pretty swank.

I always wondered, after kickin in several dozen urns, if Blizz should have made it where after the 50th a ghost comes up, pimp slaps your pally and says 'hey Hey HEY. Stop being a *%@#' then flies off.

Hm....Finding keys are annoying, I say bring back "trapped" chests like the one in the gameplay video. Or the ones in Diablo one with a lighting AoE. Or new ones that will slice you in half if your health is low enough. ( More gore I say )

If you dont know what it is, it was a dagger that gave a 100% chance for a magic item!

There were a few chests that dropped good stuff, but the majority of them dropped a Minor Healing Potion and some Bolts.

On the subject of containers, I'm suprised nobody has said anything about the skeletons in the barrels yet.
