I salute you fellow sysadmins :D As someone who once worked in a situation that was very similar to what's happening now, I can only imagine all the flak the Blizz IT admins are getting right now. However, for all the sh*t they're getting, they deserve it, because they could have TOTALLY prevented this entire situation, or at least made it less HORRIBLE.

Another Blizz fanboi. Hey, when hot tix go on sale on Ticketmaster do they crash and burn? No. Shure its slow, but its steady. Blizzard has literally billions of dollars in cash. If they dont want to outsource their sales, then be prepared to deal with the volume. And by be prepared u know what that means? Be OVER prepared. Be ready to get absolutely hammered. As a former retail manager of a major warehouse chain, I can tell you this: The day after Thanksgiving (aka Black Friday), we had triple the staff, and an ungodly ammount of product sitting on the floor. And year after year things went off without a hitch BECAUSE we examined the market, and knew this was the busiest day of the year, and over preped for it. Now obviously this is different in application, but not in theory. They knew this volume would be coming. How could they not? Blizzcon has been a main topic on forums since its announcement. And they failed to get their act together. With all the $$ we pour into their coffers every month, they couldnt anticipate a volume of this magnitude. Who do they have in their sales/promotions departments? High School Sophmores? cuz this is a Sophmoric effort if Ive ever seen it.

I certainly agree with you on those points, Im just curious how many people actually have any experience with stuff like this. And Thanksgiving was a disaster around here last year with the auth server going down and no one at the offices to fix it.

But the point is IT and server administration is not as simple as "make it work." You cant over prepare for hardware failures or corrupted data without some down time to swap things around.

Yes, we heard it all, to be quite frank, I should guess that this is one major server problem if they bring the site down with a splash page. Just be patient, it'll be up, and everybody should get their tickets for Blizzcon. Don't worry, you are in front of the line people, just keep your eyes peeled for the blue updates.
