I don't understand the theory. twice upon abandoning a quest I lost the items I collected for the quest. Why?

Once I had the ray gun that shrinks the giant. I didn't realize the gun had a 2 hour timer. I did some other quests first. I got all the items except 1 (I needed several) and the ray gun vanished. I went back to the NPC. Abandoned quest and got the quest again so I could get the gun. All the items were gone. :(

Then in Tanaris the Gahz thing. When I got all my Gahz stones I tossed the swirly hat, not realizing I needed it for the turn in. Went back to the turn in and abandoned and got it again, all stones gone.

It was implemented a little while ago (before BC) to curb people doing a ton of gathering quests, abandoning them then accepting them after the lvl cap was raised for a quick jump of xp.

We can't expect to be able to beat every class on the battlefield, if we could we'd be warlocks.

With limited bank storage, many players were finding themselves with extra items that they didn't know what to do with. Usually these items were things collected from quests that had been abandoned and long since forgotten about. To help with both the storage issue of having too many items saved away and to help with clearing the clutter many players were being left with, items that are collected as a part of a quest are usually deleted when the quest is dropped.

It's a little inconsistent... sometimes I don't lose quest related items even after completing a quest normally.

yes, I carried around some quest items for a while after completing or abandoning the quest taking up valuable bag space.

I thought it was because players were keeping some quest items to play with instead of finishing the quests. If that is not the case please change it back. Sure I figured out how to keep the furblog costume item but allot of people can't figure it out :(

The first time I encountered the auto-delete I was pretty annoyed. I had to drop a quest because it was bugging and was not completing properly even after re-logging, restarting, etc.

If it is simply to help with inventory space, I would have rather been asked if I want to keep or get rid of related quest items instead of the game just assuming for me. Or at least given some indication that by abandoning the quest all quest items would be deleted in the process.

I like it when they disappear.

Many times I take all the quests at once in an area without reading them (until I'm ready to go actually do them.) I get all this stuff and I don't know what its for or what I'm supposed to do with it. If for some reason I don't get around to doing the quests and abandon them I'm not stuck with items that I dont know what they belonged to.

That's a good explanation...

Except that most of that extra quest "stuff" is leftover after COMPLETING a quest, and the quest giver forgets to take the now useless item. They should have someone fix those.

When you turn in the travil part from the centar to the night elf in town do not exspet the next part of the chain and you can keep it with out having to keep the quest. There is always a loop hole.

Since I've also had problems with that quest in Feralas.... please, please, devs, if you're going to make a timed quest, say it's a timed quest, and warn me so that if I don't have the time to play right then I won't take the quest. It's frustrating to take what looks like any other quest, to realize I now have a quest item with a timer in my bag, and if I don't complete the entire quest right then I'll have to reset the quest and likely lose my progress on it.

Oh yeah and so people couldn't save up quest items for 50 quests before BC came out and instantly level to 61. Forget that part?

If you didn't get a warning, it was because you have a mod that's breaking it. There is a warning with the default UI.

Not only is it inconsistent, it can easily be taken care of by the player instead. Like many people are saying, the problem is when you retain quest items after the quest is turned in. It would be better if you had the *OPTION* to delete the items or not. Also, players can easily check thottbot, ampwow, whatever in order to check whether they still need the item or not. That's what I do to get rid of the items that aren't taken when I turn in the quest... GG.
