I just wanted to report on this topic.

I bought a Belkin N1 Vision router a couple of weeks ago. I also started to get some disconnections once in a while. After a couple af weeks i have been able to identify the disconnections took place every 2 hours.

The security log of the router showed that it was getting time from a sntp connection every time i had a disconnect.

I sent a support request to Belkin and I am still waiting for an answer. I just wanted to let you know if you happen to have the same router and the same problem. Below is a copy of the support request I sent :

-------
I get a disconnection from World of Warcraft and other internet appplication every 2 hours at the exact time the router is getting is real-time. The disconnection is reproducible and systematic.

The line in the security log of the router is
Sun 2008-07-20 08:48:15 - Router get real time with time-zone -5
At this exact moment i get a disconnect.

Is there a firmware on the way to resolve this? Is it possible to deactivate or lower the frequency of sntp time sync?

Follow up on this :

From Belkin... in the Virtual server page, add the ntp protocol and specifie the ip address of your computer in the Private IP address. It seemed to work at first, but the disconnection continued.

From the community... i have found a post on Pcmag by Nexy and on the DD-WRT forum by Nexy33 (strange... the name looks the same...). These post explains how to kill the ntp process on the router. Here is what you have to do :

1) go to this page on the router http://192.168.2.1/wukongjiuwo.html
2) type PS and click on the enter button
3) identify the NTP process : on my machine it was 782, in the post it was 787, so be careful it varies. the process is easy to identifies, it have NTP in it and the time zone in wich you are
4) type kill [process number] in my case it was kill 782 and click the enter button
5) voilà!

You will have to repeat the procedure if reset your router. With that fix i kept connected a whole day!

yeah its the same person in each one sorry i posted it on 3 forums where folk were looking ive written dozens of emails to belkin and tried phoning on several occasions to no avail. Still no long term fix but hopefully we will get a port of dd-wrt soon. This router is definately not ideal for gaming which they advertise as one of its main features.

Belkin finally posted some beta version of the firmware that adress theese issues.

If you have version 2.00 of the router : no luck yet... you have to continue killing the process manually like described above.

If you have version 1.00 one of theese firmware should do the trick

Right on. If you are experiencing disconnects in general with the Belkin move to the 1.00.16 pre-release version if you feel comfortable doing the upgrade. Solid recommendation!

Keep an eye on dd-wrt.com and their supported hardware database too. ;-)

    Cheers

    Kudos to you, people, kudos.

I tried getting something out of Belkin at the end of lat year and their level 1 support is rubbish. For interest, version 15 of the firmware is majorly broken. Version 11 won't give you disconnects, but has a bunch of functionality and display issues.

    Again, well done dude!!
