Has there been any word on whether some achievements will be account based? Like reputation? For instance, I raided on my druid Pre-BC and am exalted with Brood of Nozdormu, but I now raid on my hunter and getting that achievement is near impossible.

Im in the same boat as her, i have 70s which i spend equal time on.
I wouldnt ever be able to archieve 100% on all 3 chars, i dont think i would be able to even on one char.
One char i pvp alot on, one i do 10 mans on, third one is a bit of everything.
So by account wide achievements we dont mean new achievements counting for your whole account , rather that archievements are tabbed, one for the char you are inspecting, second tab the account.
Spread over 3 chars there is a much higher chance i would ever be able to come close to the 100%, otherwise i would have to play one character exclusively to get there.
This shouldnt take much programming at all, if you say you have plans for it, but the whole system is already in place for one character, then i dont see what the issue is to simple add up the archievements of all chars into the account archievements tab.

I hope i was able to make that clear.

Please please make them account wide.

My only chance at having PvP titles for my newer 70s is through my old characters. I earned those titles and don't see why I shouldn't at least be given the achievement. Not to mention the other massive amounts of things I did on the old guys that may be achievements that are near impossible to re-do.

I'd rather take a dump in a box and call it guaranteed.

I don't exactly understand why achievements are being made character specific and not account specific. It honestly doesn't make a lot of sense.

It comes down to programming.

You can't just make things easy because they don't makes sense to you.

After all, who wants to get the rep, tabards, pets etc on all of their characters? Better it was account wide.

This, Exactly. Bornakk and Neth (if you're watching), please pass along this suggestion as imperative. To be honest, making all achievements account wide will be a simple step that will totally eliminate a large amount of QQ'ing at WotLK launch. I would much rather have account wide achievements - people play different characters for variety and hate repeating the same grind over and over again. Account wide achievements will make all of them seem more accessible to all players, so contrary to popular belief it will actually "function" as more content, compared to individual character achievements.

So essentially you're just calling the people at Blizzard lazy programmers then? Because it's 100% possible to make achievements account wide instead of character specific. If they were using their brains on this idea from the get-go they would have already realized how stupid character specific achievements are.

I wonder if this will mean that if someone clicks on it in the armory they will be able to see all a person's alts? That could be bad and good.

Of course that would be good. The first step to making the wow forums into anything respectable is removing anonymity and making people responsible for what they post.

Yes but I know guild leaders and the like that have an alt that they play to just get away and enjoy the game.

No, i think if you want an achievement on a specific character, you should achieve it. They are not designed to be done 100% - as a matter of fact that's unhealthy and you might need to seek help (and Blizzard as well, because that's flat out predatory)

There's no reason you should get a special title on a character if you had not completed that specific achievement on said character.

Because you didn't earn them on the character youy play, simple as that.

My hope is that this achievement system will make people realize characters shouldn't simply be throwaways.
