I know there have been numerous posts about how converting the terrain of azeroth to be flying mount friendly is too large an undertaking, but how difficult could it be to allow Flying mounts to be used in Azeroth as well - just keep them grounded?

It seems to me that this is a very logical middle ground and wouldn't require a massive overhaul. I really hate having to carry both the epic ground mount and the epic flying mount with me at all times and I can't see why something like this would negatively impact the WoW environment in the way having AH's and class trainers in Shattrath could have.

This is a very sensible suggestion. You should post it in the suggestions forum.

It's more of a design decision on what feels right in the game. We don't really want them to be used as ground mounts in Azeroth as there's a disconnect there with being on a mount that can fly, but not being able to fly it.

You can only mount a flying mount in Outland. That's a clear definition.
Now if you could mount in Azeroth and Outland, but only fly in Outland, it causes a disconnection there for the player and the flying mechanic which is usually going to lead to frustration.

On the other hand, most people would prefer that they don't have to use two inventory slots for mounts. Pallies and Warlocks and Druids obviously don't have that problem, but my priest would really like the extra spot back.

Agreed, but then the next logical step would be to overhaul the graphics/models in Azeroth to remove any structures that aren't complete, or don't allow flight travel behind them.

I say allow flying mounts in Azeroth but give a flight ceiling and enable fatigue over deep water. I know it won't happen but nonetheless one can hope.

So you'd rather have them use resources to completely re-make the old world? Your a douche.

Since they did not design the non-outlands to be flown in, there are places that are not meant to be visited, some that are very non-pretty, and some that are buggy and can cause you to fall through the map etc.

I bet that it would take a lot of work to clean-up Azeroth in order to be able to let loose the flying mounts in it.

Give a kid a cookie and soon they want the whole box.

If they were to do this, people would ask for flying mounts to be enabled fully Azeroth. and we would get the same response.

You can either agree with me, or be wrong.

It's not as simple as that at all. We're talking entire zones you're not even supposed to be able to go to. Tons and tons of incomplete areas all over the open zones too.
