Check what debuff those murlocs cast on you.

Also, patch 2.1 is a nerf to AoE prot.

My experience in farming 6-7 mobs in Shadowmoon is that I DIE, lol. It's also because some of those mobs are casters.

I toned it down to 3-4 and I'm still good, but still have around 50% hp or 50% mana, depending on what seal I use.

I should check out solo Rampart or Blood Furnace again how this latest 2.1 nerfed aoe.

Defense is useful for 2 main purposes: being uncrittable (by mobs), which requires Defense (Skill, not rating) of 490 - 5*levels below 70. So, at level 40, you would need 360 Defense.

The other purpose is added mitigation in the form of additional Miss, Dodge, Parry, Block.

Since 3/4 of those aren't extremely useful to Prot AoE, he probably has the points in toughness (as would I), for the overall mitigation. In the long run, you'll want both, but in order to get up the tree fastest, skip anticipation until it really matters (MT'ing higher end content).

Also, because I get this question alot, you shouldn't need to be maxing Stam, and there isn't much, if any Spell Damage plate while leveling pre-Outlands. Instead, focus on Armor and possibly INT (so you don't mind consecrating, holy shielding, and re-sealing/judging. Spirit doesn't hurt either for when you're running between pulls. If you have Seal of Light on, and are properly geared fighting the appropriate type/level/number of mobs, your HP should never get below 80%, and you should end the fight at or near full. Mana, on the other hand, can turn into an issue, depending on how you like to grind.

An aside to that last part about HP < 80%. Once you get Ardent Defender, you can play around with pulls that take you to about 30% in order to get the effect from that talent. In this case, you probably want LESS Stam, as long as you know what it is you're doing. The reason is, you'll get below the 35% mark faster, and start taking the reduced damage. Just make sure that your incoming HP (seal/judgement of light procs, truesilver BP, and other nifty lifesteals) equals the reduced damage you'll take from Ardent Defender. The absolute most efficient grinding would be something in the range of 10 mobs that take you down to 30%, and then having seal of light take you back up to full as they die off.

Well I switched to Prot at 31 and it was fine. It only gets better the more points in Reckoning I get.

One question thought, I seem to get more heals and more Double Strikes using a 1.5 speed sword than my 1.9 Sword of Omen. I was reading 2.0 is the most effective though.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Also I seem to be able to take 3 or 4 mobs one level higher than I am. Far from the massive amounts you see on the AoE videos. Any Tips?

p.s. I have 5/5 Toughness and none in Anticipation.

I looove the fact that videos were made, but the blurriness kinda made them pointless D: I'm a visual person and being able to see the video clearly would make a world's difference. This guide is great, should be stickied, but if there's anything you could do to upgrade those videos that would be simply amazing. <3

You're very close to being able to get the quest for the thrash blade (45 I believe?). Also /bump to the top for an awesome guide.

Wow! It's almost like you took the words right out of my mouth. This is a great guide and I have been doing this since around lvl 30. Some suggestions I'd like to add is if you have a mage friend around your lvl you can double the xp and money u make by grouping up with them. You put blessing of salvation on them and hold all the agroo, 20 guys is a piece of cake to kill. Great guide! (if you look at my talents i just specced ret, but i am hating the hit 800 every 15 seconds thing, I'd rather just take out like 10 guys at once)! Prot is awesome, go prot pallys!

And a tip I haven't seen.. its kinda obvious, but when you are up against casters or ranged mobs drag some melee mobs to them.. even grab a passing beast, crab, courser.. what ever

the caster drops so fast within one or two passes of Reckoning.
