After reading this guide & never being able to find a good tank, I rolled my own protadin. I haven't looked back. He has amazing survivability against melee opponents.

I'd like to reiterate that this build is sorely lacking if you're under 30. I thought it would help me learn paladin tanking better if I stuck with the spec from the lowest levels, but I can honestly say that it probably slowed me down. Now my protadin is 32 & the build is really starting to come together now that he has SoL, BoSanc, & Reckoning. I can't wait for Holy Shield. :)

Also for everyone knocking Anticipation, I'd like to point to http://www.wowwiki.com/Attack_table. 5/5 Anticipation without additional +def isn't going to push regular hits off the table. While we want to get hit to proc Reckoning & Redoubt, we also need survivability. Also consider that it'll increase your block % by the same amount that it'll reduce their chance to hit you, which means reduced damage but some will still get past your shield thus proccing Reckoning, *and* you'll get more reflected damage via shield spikes & BoSanc.

You're not 1337 enough for Bumblebee.

Posted with the wrong paladin.

Edit: Forgot to add that Lesser Absorption has to be the most amazing chest enchant in the game. With as many hits as we take, a 5% proc tends to go off a lot so it doesn't take long before it absorbs more than 150 damage, making it on par with or better than Exceptional Health. The mats are also ultra low level, so they can be farmed with ease by toons of any level, as opposed to the 8 x Arcane Dust, 4 x Major Healing Potion, & 2 x Large Brilliant Shard required by Exceptional Health.

I was looking at a level 70 build for this protection spec for grinding around once at 70. I'm not planning any raids or anything, just decent gear for being 70. I tinkered around with two for this that I think would work well, and I'd like some feedback. One is Prot/holy, and the other Prot/Retri.

The power to cause pain is the only power that matters, the power to kill and destroy, because if you can't kill then you are always subject to those who can, and nothing and no one will ever save you

I cannot tell you how many times I've had to say "Please stop pulling mobs off me, I'm doing this on purpose" with this spec. Which really speaks to how ridiculous the build is--you can take on enough mobs that people you don't know will jump in and start trying to help you because they think you're in immediate danger. Nevermind being at 89% health and 75% mana with 6 mobs half dead...

Oh, one thing I do with mobs that I'm in no real danger of dying from, I will judge light on one and get wisdom on the other and switch back and forth between them depending on what I need. It's useful to have a timer addon to make sure you keep wisdom up on your secondary target. It has let me pull a few extra mobs before running out of mana, though, which is a bit of a boost to my XP/hr.

I've actually stopped using SoL when aoe grinding unless I'm in trouble. I judge wisdom and seal of wisdom to keep my mana up. This allows me to spam consecrate and holy shield. The extra dps allows me to pull more mobs, greatly increasing my xp/hr. When I started doing this while grinding the mobs at Dalson's Tears my xp/hr went from ~60k to ~80k. After each pull I'm usually down to less than 200hp/mana but using lvl 55 water/food makes the downtime nearly non-existent.

hey just wanna say that this guide is awesome!! also wanted to let u know that even while disarmed SoL still procs. Also a good spot for the low thirties is in the Daybrie Farmstead in Arathi Highlands. i was taking about 7-10 at a time with these guys. But seeing as they are alliance they r only for horde :( good thing is is that they r freindly to ally so ally never show up :)) saw 1 in 3 lvls. there is also a horde freindly farm but idk how grinding goes there but id assume it is the same.

Man, I just started using this build @ level 34 and in a day or so Im about to ding 38...this is so much fun. Like you said tho, its important not to panic...when I was first learning how this works and what to do, I was getting a bit concerned when I wasnt getting the heal procs I've seen come from this build. Then Im like oh yeah, bubble / heavy runecloth bandage FTW! So fun and very fast moving, but yeah it does make ya rofl @ yourself when people come to help pull the 5th or 6th mob away and you find yourself yellin, leave them alone lol....this build/post rules!!! GG

TYVM!!! Sticky!

I've had this build for about 12 levels now and enjoy it. Yesterday I died for the first time in 3 weeks, and it seems a lot easier to make cash from loot, not to mention the leather if I'm grinding beasts.

It's not often that I end up with a lot of health/mana at the end of the fight, which is contrary to what the original post states; but that may be because I'm firing off consecrate and HS fairly often.

I can't wait to grind the undead footman at the armory in Hellfire. Levels 58-60 fly anyway, but with this build I could see leveling twice in few hours at that spot.

Zaxxis raiders in Netherstorm. 13 pull my biggest so far. Only took a few hours to grind through revered to exalted. Made a lot of money this way too.

From Lionsroar:1) Skill > Gear > Spec, in that order.2) If you see someone dying, heal.3) If you see some clothies getting punched, tank.4) If 2 &3 are under control, do damage.5/IAEF /dance

LOL, good thing that time doing nothing but drinking/eating is making your downtime non-existent.

I found that working up your unarmed skill (or let it work up on its own when fighting disarm mobs) works really well so you can still grind on mobs that disarm (like the pirate swashbucklers in tanaris). At first I had some trouble with them since I would be disarmed half the fight and never able to land a hit for my SoL/SoW to proc. But once my unarmed skill got up my efficiency went back up so it did not matter if I was disarmed.

Q u o t e:

NO. Don't do this. Never go here unless you are for a quest.

These guys run away, they disarm, and can execute at low hp. Terrible for AoE grinding.

Huh? None of that matters.

Running away isn't a problem unless you let them get too close to the shadow mages. Anything else, it just means they bring back a friend, so you're spared the trouble of having to go get that mob.

Disarm isn't a major problem. As long as you still have your shield, you can AoE grind just fine. It doesn't even slow things down much if your unarmed skill is decent.

Execute is only a problem if 1) you overpull while 2) your cooldowns are all down. Not a very common occurrence.

It's not as ideal as some spots, but it's probably the best low-40s area I've found to fill in until the pirates and ogres become available/rewarding. Much better than the murloc cave. Got the better part of two levels in the area in a couple of hours, and it would've been faster if I hadn't been chatting on the guild line pretty much the whole time.

Another useful thing is a weapon chain, as SoL doesn't work when you are disarmed! Normally you'd have to avoid mobs such as the bloodsail swashbucklers in STV, but with a weapon chain they are fair game!

Like i said, it still procs even w/o a weapon in hand, tho if u are going to be fighting dissarming mobs u might want one anyway.

bumping it from time to time should be fine. If we put it stickies, it can be target for jealously and possibly bring to nerf.

anyway, I find using 2.60-3 speed 2-handed is quite useful when I have to go against the caster. Basically, I use seal of blood to increase the chance of proc reckonning.
