I have been told I am a firly good tank, but am completly clueless as to the mitigation thing...

Also, I have talked to a couple of other tanks on my server alitle about the requirements for tanking heroics and beyond, and all I was told was 20+k health, and 540+ def. I have attained that, but am still finding myself taking alot more damage from bosses than I should, and subsequently dieing... If some one would inspect me and give me some tips I would greatly apreciate it.

You should get +30% Avoidance with PARRY and DODGE (ur defence rating will increment this value)

Take into account that BLOCK is not a avoidance value, its mitigation value cuz u receive damage from blocked hits.

Once you imprpved your mitigation, avoidance and HP, focus in your armor value.

Ty for the advice.

Any tips on where I could find gear with the apropriate stats? Most I see in the heroics just have +def or block.

IMO, having 555 defense is overkill. I would go for more pure mitigation in your gems (swap out +def for +dodge or +stam, or a mix therein).. I know this is going to open up a theorycrafting debate, but that's ok, I like those. But your stam is a bit low.

Also, I'm quite surprised to see all the +AP enchants. First of all, threat is a non-issue, so you're buffing your Threat generation (which is diminishing returns because it wasn't a problem to begin with), at the expense of pure mitigation in the forms of +stam, +armor, and +dodge/parry.

A better enchant would be +STR, (though still less useful than stam/dodge), as it buffs your AP and your shield block value (additional dmg blocked, and dmg dealt via shield slam). Upping AP does buff SW, TC and Revenge, but +STR effectively does the same thing while at the same time adding to the mitigation of your block.

That said, you're wearing mainly Titanium craftables and blues which have only +def. Most of your upgrades will come from Naxx and Emblem gear.

Edit: Also, you're a blacksmith. There's no excuse not to add gem slots to your bracers, gloves, and belt. Add +stam gems in there and you'll find your survivability go WAY up.

Edit2: ok, I just realized that armory for some reason doesn't SHOW the sockets added by BS'ing, so I can't see how you've gemmed those pieces (assuming you've socketed and gem'd your gloves/bracers/belt). See above for gemming suggestions. If they're +AP or +def I'll keel you :)

Allready have those three socketed with the new blue level stam gems. :)

The reason I have so many +def enchants was because all the people on my realm I was talking to about it was stressing that 550 was the new def cap. So if I was to be able to successfully tank heroics that cap, and 22k+ health would be what I needed to focus on.

It looks like there's something wrong with the talent build links from the guide.

Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

Is it me, or do the Rogues' dismantle make the warriors look like children? At least just make weapon mastery more available. Or throw booming voice in with unbridled wrath, put that in booming voices place, put weapons' expert in the second tier of fury, increasing precision 1,2,3, and reducing chance disarm works by 5,10,15 %, and have the weapon mastery increase expertise and reduce disarm duration like present. That way precision is more available to all specs, and just adds more flexibility, and more options for warrior speccs. WHAT IF when, only when a warrior is disarmed they can re arm themselves with a different weapon, maybe just a dagger, if a bigger weapon is too good.

This thread is dead,we need updates on warrior tanking in 3.1.3 and for the planned changes in 3.2 which will strongly effect warrior tanking especially with the possibility of parry being a stat you might want.

Please note: This is a work in progress update to Wrath information. You will see a 540 defense gear list and a movie directory included soon (these are already posted to the forums). Corbusier's Fury guide will be coming once they're updated for Wrath as well. Enjoy!

Quick Reference
All suggestions and interpretations in this guide are for the majority of situations, not all. With Warriors, there are almost always exceptions to any hard rule.

  • CTRL + F (Search) is your friend. Use a key word like "Armor" to scroll through related subjects.
  • Leveling: DW Fury is the most efficient leveling spec until level 60, at which point Protection becomes the most effective leveling spec until level 80.
  • Tanking Stats: 540 Defense at level 80. For handling damage, use Stamina, Armor, Avoidance, in that order. For increasing Threat, use Expertise, Hit, Block Value, Strength, in that order.
  • If others have difficulty finding this quite-obvious library of information and decide to post before reading it, feel free to direct them to http://www.readthesticky.com/ .

Protection Priority (Single Target)
Shield Slam
Revenge
Devastate
Shockwave/Concussion Blow*

Heroic Strike at 40+ Rage.

*Shockwave and Concussion Blow are both higher priority than Devastate if your Shield Slam will be available the next global cooldown. In other words, if a Devastate procing Sword & Board would not reduce the cooldown of Shield Slam, prioritize Shockwave and Concussion Blow instead.

Protection Priority (Multi Target)
Shockwave
Thunder Clap
Shield Slam
Revenge

Cleave at 40+ Rage.
