It always amazes me that no matter what word has the "ch" in it, people make it a soft sound.


Scholomance, (SKO-LO-MANCE) people like to pronouce "Shooloomance" (because they all failed english in shool)


The Scottish, and Germanic (as well as a few others) would differ. It is a HARD CH sound

LoCH modan (Lock Modan) much like loch ness (LOCK again)

Scholomance (SKO) School (SKOOL)

These words are not "Losh" and "Shool"

Auchindoun, would fall into this category.

Auch-in-doun (AWK-IN-DOON)

sh sounds are typically noted with the letters "sh"

Who's to say it's a Germanic word? Auchindoun could just as easily be interpreted as being French.

If they've given an official pronunciation, then that's how it is. But it's far from ridiculous or uneducated to read it differently than you have.
