At 70 how do mages and rogues compare in PvE dps? Simple question, and so far in dungeons I'm usually first or second place in damage, but I'm hoping a fire mage can give rogues a run for their money in heroics and raids.

Rogues are the one class that is going to beat you in almost every fight. Warlocks/Hunters/Mages seem to share all of the meter spots after that, and hybrid classes after that.

in heroics and 10-mans you should be slaughtering everyone you see. as you progress through content classes come and go (warlocks get strong in T4 then fall down some in T5 then come back in T6)... eventually youll be getting out dpsed by locks, hunters, rogues, the occasional warrior... end game mage dps is well documented and QQ'd about in at least 20% of the posts on these forums it seems like.

do yourself a favor... remember its a game, turn off the meters, and do your best. in the end its about if the boss died, if you did a comparable amount of dmg relative to the other DPS, and if you had fun.

no matter how much people complain the main dps classes (hunter, lock, mage, rogue) are all relatively the same right now in end game (within 10-15%). some players are just better than others or get better raid comps.

let the flaming of my opinions on how to stop worrying and enjoy a game for what it is begin.

Your dps meters should look like that if everyone has roughly the same level of gear.

Alright, I was just asking out of curiosity and I really don't care for being top damage. I don't use a meter and I understand being a mage goes beyond just amazing damage but also utility (food, AI, etc). So far I'm enjoying the ride and looking forward to raiding at 70.

I've not even gotten into PvE stuff yet and never even considered a damage meter for that reason. As far as I'm concerned until I get turned down from a group because I'm a mage it will be my favorite class.

Learn to enjoy gimmick fights like Archimonde or Hyjal trash where you do a lot of decursing. It's about the only meter I top anymore!!!

They're approaching their rightful places on the DPS meters.
