I'm a miner and engineer, but seriously considering dropping engineering for another gatherer profession.

1) Is engineering worth keeping? It was very useful back when I pvped, but not as useful in our raid (we have other more dedicated engineers for the raid).

2) If I keep mining but drop engineering, what should I replace it with? I know that the mining and herbalism radars can't both be on at the same time, but I don't mind that. The question is about which is more profitable in the post-BC game: skinning or herbalism?

1) I don't know. I'm waiting on the news that'd be coming out soon that Neth talked about last Friday before I make my choice. I'm close to dumping it. The Gadget port was about the only thing I got a lot of use out of recently, and even that's not quite as worthwhile as it was.

2) I'm planning on either going with Jewelcrafting, to compliment the mining...or skinning so I don't have to swap radar things. I've got a druid that was capped in leatherworking (pre-expansion), and having someone else to gather skins to fuel his habit wouldn't be too bad. As far as profitable... I don't know. Seems like herbalism is the way to go for profit, but it's still early to see how BC really plays out.

As soon as you drop it, you will regret it. Stick with engineering for now. If you need the cash, level an alt with gathering professions, cause once you drop engineering, you will never get back what you have invested in it.

There has been a lot of discussion on the forums lately about the utility of various professions and how people feel they should be working. Much of the feedback we have received points to professions needing a little work and some better utility for those that choose to take them up. While we can’t give you specifics on what is planned or even dates on when players can expect change, we wanted to let everyone know that all professions are being looked at and will be revamped over time. Engineering will be the first on the list, but all professions are being closely looked at and player feedback is a welcome part of that process.

So that what, we have to be in engineering form to use our items? No thanks.

;-)

Just kidding, I hope its that good because right now it's the non-combat pet of professions.

Is this the news you told us about on Friday, which you couldn't divulge until you made sure the European team knew about it?

The +15 to all stats is an alchemy trinket not an engineering trinket.

Honestly? Drop it. I did, and I haven't looked back. It's a useless profession that blizz is dead set should remain that way. the engineering "review" will probably consist of a new non combat pet, purple smoke flares and another round of nerfs to anything that people still use.

If you like the idea of engineering, pick up jewelcrafting. It's expensive to level right now because everyone's doing it, but a) if you have mining, it's a good match, and b) it's engineering that doesn't suck, with some extra goodies like rings, necklaces, etc. It's usable in the arena, you can sell stuff to other players, and their trinkets that do things are on 5 minute cooldowns instead of 30 minutes/ 1 hour.

I decided I was tired of my dead weight profession, and picked up another gathering profession. May as well make money, I figure.

Please fix Leatherworking! Drums and the Riding Crop were both great ideas, but there is so little of that in there that it doesn't even matter. Along with that, Skinning was not improved, while Herbalists and Miners got our skinning ability for certain mobs ALONG with the bonus of getting extras like motes, buffs, gems, etc from their stuff.

Of course, if you KEEP Engineering, you'll never get back what you have invested in it, either. At least if you drop it, you can cut your losses.

I actually like leatherworking. Drums, riding crop, those hot new leg enchants. God those new crit/attack power leg armor kits are sexy.

I also really like the felstaker belt and wrist for my hunter. Not to difficult mats for some great stats.

No, Engineering needs a fix now. I'm tired of waiting. I went through my entire mining bag to get 5 points to learn my first orange skill in the past 30 points. So now, everything else is green except a khorium scope which is RIDICULOUS to make.
