So I figured the 5th disc would like isntall 1.12 for me or something, I figured it had to be patches to make the patching quicker.

But wait, it's still installing the main MPQ files...

So, is the 5th disc just to spread out the downloads more?

If so, I kindly ask what is the point?

Newer boxed copies of the game include a fifth disc, that's correct, and that's simply because it contains a newer version than the original release to help assist with patching. The fifth disc isn't a separate "patching disc", the five discs were used because the game as a whole became larger with newer versions.

Tip: If you own the expansion don't bother patching before installing, just install the original game and the expansion will update that to the initial expansion release version.

Ahhh, I understand now. And ya, thanks for the tip, I was going to install BC before patching anyways.

Thanks Drysc.

Can you please release the newer boxes (and the expansions) on DVDs?

DVD players have been out for a while now that there should be more of them then CDROM only computers.

Save us the disc swaps, please.

If you have a buddy you can get on your LAN you can copy all the updates over to your WoW folder manually...

Saves alot of download time.

A cool little trick with WoW - you don't actually have to install it. Burn your current install to a DVD and just copy it to your hard drive and make shortcuts, and it works as well as it did on the computer you copied it off of. I haven't 'installed' WoW for well over a year, despite the fact that I've done reformats and copied it back onto the computer in that time.

Agreed. It's a small request but one that goes a long way.

The Collector's Editions came with a DVD version, and there's actually some BC Collector's Editions left at the Fry's in Fountain Valley, CA. Probably not helpful to you, but what is probably helpful is information on how to create your own DVD!

Huzah!

Follow the second set of steps here (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01635p) to copy the contents of your CDs into a folder on your hard drive, and then simply burn the contents of that folder onto a DVD using your favorite software!

1. First, make a new folder on your desktop and name it something such as WoW Installer.
2. Display the disc contents by opening My Computer, right-click the CD, and choose Open.
3. Go to the Edit menu and choose Select all, so all the files are highlighted.
4. Go to the Edit menu and choose Copy.
5. Open the new folder you created on your desktop
6. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
7. The files should copy from the CD to that folder.
8. Once this is complete, please put in the next install disk.
9. Open up the disk (using the process in step 2 above).
10. Select the file called Installer Tome with the number at the end.
11. Go to the Edit menu and choose Copy.
12. Open the new folder you created on your desktop
13. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
14. The "Tome" file will copy over.

Repeat steps 8-14 to get the "Installer Tome" files off of the remaining installation disks.

The steps pretty much have you copy everything from the first CD, and then just the Installer Tome file from all subsequent discs.

Enjoy DVD awesomeness.

Would it be possible to start packing the games with a single (or 2) DVD disc instead or along with the CDs? No new computers come without a DVDROM anymore. I highly valued my copy of the Collector's edition of the original game because I could install the game with only 1 disc. If you replaced the discs with a single DVD, it would probably be cheaper. And if you provided both, it would only be slightly more expensive. Thanks.

Edit: You addressed this right before. Thanks for that info about creating a DVD. What is the installer tome, though? A large non-executable (so you cant start installing from disc 2) file that holds the mpqs and other data files?

I'd bet a dollar the next expansion will be on DVD for the non-collector.

I'd bet five that Starcraft II will be on DVD.
