0. How is closed beta going to work? 06/17/2008 10:01:45 AM PDT

Ok so we all know or have an idea that people that went to blizcon get beta keys when closed beta starts out, but i have a question about the other people that will get closed beta invites, will it be some that where in the first wow beta or the people from the TBC beta (that i was in) or is it going to be a random pick of ppl kinda like what happened in TBC beta, cause before TBC beta there where comps to get beta keys + extra stuff which where fun btw.

so yeah How do people reakon the beta system will work out?

I've been a part of it since about 2003, but right before the start of the Burning Crusade beta was the last time I heard anything about it from anyone at Blizzard. The current list is just the WoW beta list with a few additions from post-release, from what I can tell (community members, notably). Since then, it's been quiet.

I assumed that they just scratched that program since the idea of '50 handpicked testers' many not fly as well with 2-3 [N.A.] million [bitter and quick-to-judge] subscribers; better to just do more fun contests that double as marketing rather than having CMs interview Friends List candiates one-by-one. Perhaps they'll use the last Friends List for Starcraft II but I wouldn't be surprised to see it scratched for WotLK.

Is there a set number of beta keys they give out? If this next blizzcon comes before the expansion will they be giving out keys again?

not sure they allways do something new the last two blizzcons, it is estimated time wise that closed beta will start before the blizzcon

Some invites are given to known guilds/players. Some are totally random.

We generally pull from many places so that we have a good variety of people in the beta. Some of it is random and some are winners from contests, or specific groups that we want to pull from. We don't have a specific schedule for you on who we will pull in or when to share with you, but we'll do what we can to keep people as informed as possible.

Hey... how about giving people with the original collector's edition a beta invite? Or make some veteran rewards. I mean, seriously, the only "exclusive" thing we got was our vanity pets, and you gave those to every jackass who felt like paying too much money for a laptop.

Out of curiosity, is there a minimum level of experience/total time played that we would need to be considered for the beta? I've only been playing for about two months, and am wondering about my chances of getting into the beta.

No. As Neth indicated, they want people of multiple playstyles and experience. Different people approach the game in different ways. To truly beat on the code, you need all sorts of people.

There is no minimum level of experience needed since we look at a broad spectrum of testers. We want people of all experience levels to be able to share their experiences with us so that we know where we might need to work on something more. We don't necessarily want to make one aspect too hard or too easy on either end of things.

Tucson, AZ is a generally pretty good place to pull beta testers. I would say specifically in the northern part of Tucson called Oro Valley, and even more specifically my house would be an excellent source of beta testers for WotLK.
