The issue I have with the game is that the level cap may be raised beyond 80 and I have 5 70´s atm, all pretty well geared. What is the point in spending countless hours gearing up your characters if the next expansion allows you to replace epics with greens within a few level advancements?

It would be nice if Blizz would leave the level cap at 80 and just find new methods to increase skills and gear and abilities while remaining at 80.

It's called progressing your character and it's fundamental to playing an MMO. Deal with it.

Although this is a hot topic, if you think the vast majority of subscribers *aren't* salivating at the thought of levelling to 80 and getting new gear, you're nuts.

I'm not saying you should do the same. Honestly, if you don't like it, then this genre of games is (generally) not for you.

I don't see Blizzard breaking the mold in the coming expansions. It's successful, and it's what lots of gamers have come to expect. In any case, I don't think the "anti-level-cap-raise" people have really thought through the idea enough (the consequences of halting level increases in this game).

edit: really lame sentence structure

They said in an interview that future expansion won't necessarily increase the level cap.

Personally I would love to see a system where character progression is handled via epic quest line. Complete stage one of the quest and your character will be able to learn what would be level 82 abilities if they decided to simply up the level cap instead.

Trust me, you wont be replacing your gear with greens from howling fijord. I might, you wont. Even in tbc, with the huge jump in sta and such, tier 2-3 geared players went deep into the expansion before replacing thier exiting gear. Unless they decided to switch roles, I replaced my tier 1 right away, but that was mainly because I wanted to be able to kill things, and resto gear doesnt help that much while solo. WOTLK wont have the same huge jump in gear stats because unlike in classic wow, they dont have the ungodly massive gear gap to compensate for.

How would you like it if Hitler killed you?

the item growth will not be as severe as BC.

your purples will likely last you well into the late 70s, maybe even level 80.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
In practice, there is.

Lol i just don't understand those people, why would you be unhappy about replacing gears in a few lvls of lvling instead of countless hours of grinding honor???

There has to be a better way of transitioning and improving the character without making the endless hours of raiding already put in obsolete.

Anything is possible so don´t say it is a necessary part of any mmo to increase the level cap.

When the game has been fundamentally designed around increasing your level (stats, talents, spells, etc) to progress, it's silly to think that "anything is possible" means they'd remove it from this game.

They wont.

edit: I think in the future they'll find a way to let people get through the lower levels faster. Whether they simply modify the XP rate (like they've done 30-60), or let you create brand new level X characters, it's likely to happen.

I'm more worried about the level cap for fishing being raised at this point than leveling my character. I mostly leveled while queueing up for BGs in Orgrimmar, but it still was a bit of a pain.

We don't have any details to share beyond Wrath of the Lich King.

That said, before we start to think of things that are way down the road, focus on the present. Why have you spent the "countless hours" gearing up your characters right now? For me it is to feel that I accomplished something with the new character. I enjoy knowing I have multiple characters all leveled up and ready to go if I need them.

I believe I read a blue post, replying to this concern before. IIRC, they're considering giving you a way to start a new character at some higher level of skill, but that it's not in the game yet.

Think about it: DKs start at 55. It would make sense to give their professions some kind of skill boost as well.

You make baby Jesus cry. Man alive - they've already confirmed that it'll be 80 in the expansion. No amount of QQing or complaining is going to change that.

Also - look at it from a business perspective. If you're playing the same content over and over, even if its new content, you won't be very happy for very long. I just got done w/ about a 2 or 3 week break of playing for maybe 10 minutes a week (enough to ensure I didn't lose anything in the mail).

The more levels you need to complete, the more things there are to to do, the longer you will play w/o asking yourself "why am I paying for this". Don't worry - you don't have to buy the expansion. You don't have to level to 80. It is just "suggested" that you do.

I'm not looking for a blue response - just commenting:

Although I agree with you, it was pretty annoying having a bunch of my AQ40 gear (stuff I worked hard to obtain) be replaced by green items 2 weeks after tBC was released. Along the lines of what you said ("to feel that I accomplished something"), I'm really hoping that there will be an effort to minimize this kind of thing happening in WoTLK. I understand that it's going to happen no matter what (because all gear will eventually be replaced), but I hope it wont happen quite as much this time.

It really nerfed that feeling of accomplishment. I would like to maintain that somehow, beyond mere memories, even if that means the old gear gets replaced.

EDIT: one idea I like = a safety deposit box where I could store old gear. Different from a regular bank slot, you could store things, but you'd have to request to retrieve it and then wait some time (24 hours?). This would minimize the load on the database that contains your inventory items; it would also prevent me from having to delete items to make space in my bank.

Just trying to be constructive

Most people were in end game gear until 70, so I don't know what you were smoking or why you changed.

Well, I had a single T2 piece on at lvl 70 - sure.
Everything else = replaced within 2 weeks.

Your "most people" likely equates only to You.
