At the highest levels of content, with fully optimized groups and buffs, mages come in dead last except on Felmyst, where their AoE damage places them second. They also have less raid boss utility and less survivability than any other pure DPS class. In other words, don't play mage if you were thinking you wanted to come in first on anything.
Of the remaining three (lock, rogue, and hunter), all three have their strengths and can perform well on most fights. Lock requires the least skill, hunter requires slightly more, and rogue takes them most skill to be effective in PvE.

Least to most
Mage
Hunter
Rouge
Lock
Mage = a bad warlock, sheeps and slightly less healing needed
Hunter - provides nothing to the raid but misdirects and good dps
Rouge - more dps then a hunter
Lock - slightly less then a rouge, but gives curses which puts them far ahead. They have even more uses but yea whatever.

Q u o t e:
you kindly pointed out your EPIC 3% damage improve for your party. while shadow priests give a 10% shadow dmg and 5% spell dmg done to target to the entire raid.
expose weakness is 25% of the hunters agi as AP for all the melee too, that's nothing to dismiss

You wanna stay away from rogues and mages then.
Locks are superior to mages in just about every way, except on some gimmick fight mechanics.
Rogues bring nothing to the raid except their dps. They have by far the least utility of any class. Locks provide huge personal dps, almost on par with the rogues, while provide tons of utility with health stones, soul stones, banish, imp sb, etc. The best hunters have now out-dps'ed the best rogues on brutallus, A DEMON BOSS, while still providing utility with buffs and misdirect. For example, Galann out-dpsed Borot on brutallus by about 15 dps. Then the #1 spot is another hunter who's like 100 dps higher still. Borot is weilding daul warglaives against a demon boss. Galann does not have thori'dal. The time of the rogue is past.
