Q u o t e:
the only problem with the Death Knight class is that everyone is gonna make one just because you start out at level 50. Who's gonna decide which players can make their DK's their main, and who's gonna decide to give up on their DK and just turn it into an alt?

At least when Blizzard introduced Shamans to Alliance and Paladins to Horde, the decision was taken by those that took the effort and time to start all over from level 1 and take the time to reach level 70 to prove they want to make their Shaman or Paladin their new "main"... or at least a character worthy of inviting to raids and stuff.

Now with DK's... what's going to happen?

The way I see it, it's just going to become like Star Wars Galaxies. Everyone is going to want to get their DK as fast as possible to get first dibs at "Hai look, I'm a Death Knight!" ... kinda like how everyone in SWG did "Hai look, I'm a Jedi!"

Then what's next? Will the DK be underpowered? Overpowered?

If they are underpowered or weak, people will complain unlocking their DK was a waste of time.

If they are overpowered, anyone that doesn't have a DK will complain it's not fair. Or those that do have a DK will complain the day they are nerfed so they become a "balanced" class.

The only solution is to obviously make the Death Knight class...... balanced! WOAH O_____o If Blizzard succeeds at that, i will give them a pat on the back. Cause TBH, the only reason I'm writing all these warnings and mistakes SOE did with SWG is because I just know Blizzard will screw up. It's hard to have faith in Blizzard anymore these days.

Ok 1. Blizzard have no clue how to balance anything outside an RTS game... maybe...

2. Um you need to hit the site the only thing you need to 'unlock' it is to have a single char level 55+ so I don't think it's gonna be a wasted effort. =P

The whining so called Hardcore insults the real Hardcore. Clinging to anything they can hold over the heads of others. The new Raid works for the sane. #$% the nutters.

Q u o t e:

I heard some Guilds are already initiating a No Death Knight policy on pain of getting kicked.

DK will be the new welfare
DK will replace Huntard as insult de jour
It will be reduce the class so badly that no matter how cool Blizzard makes them no one will want to play one.

Your one of those morons that wanted to ban Blood elves aren't you? I love the people who are not bright you can pick them out of a lineup with so little effort.
Next time just pretend your mute instead of speaking and sticking your foot in it.

It would have been much better if another hero class was released at the same time, capable of healing, or if the free level 55 alt was allowed to be of any class.

As judged by reading forum threads, I'm not convinced most people are intellectually capable of figuring out the difference between this and the introduction of belf paladins / draenei shamans. There is a vastly greater tendency for overpopulation when DKs are the first entirely new class in three years with tons of special abilities and when there is a 100+ hour leveling time penalty for choosing an alt of any other class.

Alpha leaks at least suggest their abilities may be overpowered. Whether or not they are actually overpowered, a frequent perception of the hero class being so may make them even more popular.

I think its stupid blizzard is only releasing one class that everyone is going to play. They should maybe think about releasing shadow hunter or demon hunter in the game. NOW that would be cool and fun.

I thought this was going to be like a "yo mama" joke thread. Now, I'm just disappointed.

Here's the skinny, the lowdown, the 411 etc on the death knight choice.

First off, it fits in with Northrend extremely well for obvious reasons.

Second off, many people tend to have this strange belief that adding a new class is simple, easy as pie, and a cakewalk all on a Sunday afternoon, but it's not. There is a lot of work that goes into it and many considerations for how it will work, how it will work with other classes, how the lore ties in, how quests and npcs also can tie in to this new class, itemization, and a whole lot more. It takes a lot of forethought, testing, and care to add something this major to the game and for each new class that is added to the game, come the concerns about not maintaining the uniqueness of each class that already exists.

I'm not saying that the possibility of more classes being added in the future isn't a possibility. We had many ideas of what class we'd add in for Wrath of the Lich King prior to settling on the death knight. There are many more possibilities for classes we'd consider in the future as well, but we aren't going to rush to add them in and risk creating a situation where other classes lose their uniqueness and their value within the game.

You may think we're being stupid, but we don't.

It seems to me that the balance issue is by far the most difficult issue. Everything else can be done relatively well by just some internal testing and feedback

I'm curious if you guys (Blizzard) really understand the implications of implementing a plate-wearing DPS/Tank hybrid with several specific anti-caster abilities. The whole philosophy for this class sounds too much for balance issues, even if band-aid adjustments were to be made.

My main concern is that, while the DK makes a nice centerpiece for the new expansion, I wonder if other classes will receive the same in depth treatment that the DK is going to get. I do NOT want to see the SUPER DEATHKNIGHT come out with massive mechanic changes, thoughtful talents, great abilities (bordering on the overpowered), massive support for the class through gear and quests- only to see EVERY OTHER CLASS get the "ten minute" treatment that I, personally, feel that Shaman got on TBC.

That would prove disasterous if you allowed it to happen, Blizzard.

Every class is getting looked at and the death knight is being created to fit in and balance in with all of the other classes as well. While the death knight is being created to be unique, it is not being created to be more powerful than any other class.

If you mean they are a dps/healer hybrid, you're right.

Any other meaning, you're wrong.

I would have liked them to add another class for lore reasons, at least.

I'm not a fan of demon hunters, but they make more sense for some of the races than Death Knights do.

They'll be stupid? What's so stupid about raising a massive army of dead people from your fallen enemies while blasting "In The Dark Of The Night" from the movie Anastasia?
