I want to play either Resto Druid or Shaman. I plan on running 5-mans alot and possibly raiding. I do *not* PVP.

I've been told Druids are not the ideal choice for 5-mans but make great raid healers, which concerns me (the 5-man part).

Any advice would be great, or you can simply post the name of the class you suggest :) Thank you!

Flip a coin.

That's really all you need to do. All healing classes are very well done in almost every situation, there are a few where one shines over the others.

people are adverse to taking druids for healing 5 mans since you can't ooc rez but those people generally suck anyway so they need the rezer.

I'd suggest the class that fits your playstyle most and that you will enjoy most. Both Druids and Shaman can be very effective in raids and five-player groups.

It wouldn't hurt to make yourself a list of the things you think you would like most about each class and figure out from there which you are leaning more toward based on that list. Some people find it incredibly fun to shape shift as a druid. Others find it extremely fun to have totems they can drop down and see visibly working for them. Others look at survivability, ease of leveling, learning curve, etc. It's up to you to really define what you want and then go for it.

Whatever you choose, I hope you have fun.

Falling like dew upon a thought, produces

5-mans? Cannot go wrong with a resto Shaman. Druids don't have normal ressurect so it might slow your group down on wipes if you don't have someone else in the group that can rez.

Otherwise, Druids heal just fine.

I found the armory opt-out function on the forums, now I just need to find the one in-game.

Pick the Shaman if you don't PvP. As a resto spec in PvE scenarios, the Druid will be more of a snoozefest (all you're going to do is hit Lifebloom over, and over, and over, and over). Shaman will still be mainly healing, but he has a lot of other random utility spells that are fun, and is way better at DPSing in his healer spec than a Druid, for those times when you are soloing, or have another healer in your group.

Also the Shaman is the healer of choice if you prefer 5-man because he has strong direct heals, a minor passive heal in Earth Shield, and he can Ankh / Res everyone all by himself in case of wipe. Plus, Windfury Totem makes every instance run way more fun.

Priests are the adaptible healing class. A good choice for healing, especially if you aren't sure where and how you may want to end up healing. They're not the best at everything, but they are pretty darn good at everything.

Beware the Reptoids.

I play a resto druid as the main healer in a regular 5-man group, and absolutely love it. The only potential downside is the resurrection cooldown. That's not an issue for my group because we also have a paladin (prot specced, basically our "floater" for off tanking and off healing).

except paladins.

dont roll a paladin unless you want to aoe tank a crapton of stuff, or be laughed out of pug heroics when you're BT geared - but dps specced

PALADIN: He will hearth alot so watch out for his bubble.

There are certain 5-man heroics that druids cannot heal.

I love my priest, tons of utility, the largest variety of heals of any class, too.

shaman IMO....

imagine this. 5 player group. 1 tank, 3 dps, and you, the sole healer. if youre a shaman, you can res if someone dies. you can even ankh. if youre a druid... if anyone dies theyre going to have to run back and the whole group will have to wait for them.

This is somewhat true. While it does make it more difficult to get into 5 mans due to the lack of OOC rez, the number of times BRez has prevented a wipe makes it most handy. Also if you bring along a DPS pally, shammy, priest, or tanking pally, you can have an OOC rez available.

Don't Panic.
