if Enh Shaman, Fury/Arms Warriors, Feral Druids and Rogues havent killed the Ret spec yet, i dont think DKs will either. Ret Paladin is a unique spec to play, and probably will still be a unique spec when DKs come out, some people will choose to roll DK, and others will choose to stick with Ret.

Man, this is probably prett wrong. First, as a raid leader, it will be quite some time before I allow a death knight in anything other than a 5-man. People will need to learn how to play the toon and, more importantly, they should be focusing on getting their main's geared and ready for the new end-game. I am assuming many other RLs will be the same way for the first 6 months or so of WotLK.

People aren't going to stop playing their Ret Pallies or their Fury Warriors or their Feral Druids. It'll be like when the Alliance got shamans; tons of people leveled one to 23 then had their curiosity fulfilled and went back to their mains.

I've figured out what's keeping Ret afloat, actually. It came about from some work I did last week, trying to figure out how to build a pve character around 2 handed weapons. Paladin Retribution spec really is the only PvE-based damage-dealing spec that focuses on 2handers. All other classes capable of using them are better off dual weilding for PvE melee damage. Because Paladins can't dual weild, their only pure-damage option is 2handers.

I hereby make the following predictions for WotLK:

1) DK's dual-weilding abilities and talents will produce far superior PvE-based damage. 2handers will have a largely pvp and/or tanking role. Ret Pallies will survive as the only 2hander-pve-damage excuse.

OR

2) Ret will have dual weild as a new, high-end talent. This will effectively replace 2handers for pve-damage, and the developers can design gear with the explicit "2hander for pvp, dual weild for pve" rule in mind.

I like to think of Jesus as a paladin, wielding an Ashbringer while on a spectral tiger mount. And he's there for two reasons, to chew gum and kick ass and he's all outta chewing gum.

so, are warriors getting spells or are paladins getting rid of spells? i thought ret paladins used mostly spell damage and warriors used melee damage. i know paladins melee too, but don't they have to choose between putting spell damage stats and putting melee damage stats on gear?
