  • 0. Chat filters still not working after 2.4.1...   04/01/2008 01:35:28 PM PDT
quote reply
I'm having the Exact same problem I was before, right when 2.4 came out, of chat filters not correctly filtering in each chat pane/window. There have been multiple threads opened but I just wanted to be the first to open another thread confirming this this problem still exists.
For example, I have 3 chat panes/windows.
I. General/Trade window, channels intended to be enabled are: 1. General, 2. Trade, 3. Local Defense from global channels; Say, Emote, and Yell from player messages; and nothing else.
II. Communication, channels intended to be enabled are: Guild Chat, Officer Chat, Party, Raid, Raid Leader, Raid Warning, Battleground, and Battleground Leader; and nothing else.
III. Combat Log, which is, quite obviously, the combat log only.

The problem is that I will specifically have guild, party, raid, BG, and officer chat Disabled for my Trade window, but the messages come through. In order for me to fix this I have to check the box in the Config window for those channels, and then un-check them again. This fix only works until I log out. When I log back in, the settings revert back to how they were before, and I must repeat this process in order for me to get my desired assortment of channel filtering in each of my chat windows.

Mods are not causing this problem, I have disabled all my mods and this problem still exists. I've deleted my WTF folder, addons folder, tested this, and it still occurs.

Just wondering what's going on.
Thank you

I logged in after today's patch, made some changes to the combat filters in the combat chat window, logged out, logged back in, and the changes I made were no longer there.

It's too bad there's all this trouble with chat windows. I thought they were flawless before they were "fixed" in the 2.4 patch, now it's terrible. The new system is so convoluted it's hard to figure out what most of those checkboxes actually display.

The fix for this bug was bad and had to be pulled from the 2.4.1 patch at the last moment, the patch notes were not updated in time. it should be fixed in the next patch.

Any estimate as to when the next patch is going to be released? It is driving me completely insane having to reset my chat window settings every time I log in or reload my UI. I was desperately hoping for a fix in 2.4.1. :(((

Thanks for the info.

You know, in the interests of customer relations, you might want to suggest a policy change:

Freeze the patch notes _AFTER_ you freeze the code changes.

Making a change to a text file should have less of an impact than backing out (or making) a code change.

---

Not quite as good:, but better than nothing: including a link (in the patch notes) to web-based patch notes that are more accurate than the ones included with the download.

It's the game of the future, and always will be.

Thank you for the info, Hortus. It's not the answer we were all hoping for, but at least we have some official word on this now.

1) The 2.4.1 patch notes never said anything about the topic in the OP (it specifically states Combat log -- not chat). So even if it was pulled from the patch, Blizzard didn't "promise" anything in the notes for this issue.

2) Every patch has at the top of its patch notes a link to where the notes are kept online -- which are usually more up to date than what is included in the patch (since they can be changed after the patch is released).

There is a link; I'm guessing you've not tried it.

Generally, it links to older patch notes; for example, right now, it links to the World of Warcraft Client Patch 2.4.0 patch notes.

This problem been brought up in the past; at that time , the freeze date for the web based patch notes was even earlier than that for the downloaded patch notes.

Any development/production system that freezes the change notes before the actual code is backwards. In the old days, when the documentation was on paper this was common, because the lead time for the manuals was longer than the lead time for the disks.

It's not the case when everything is downloaded; it strikes me that either someone set up a policy a long time ago which is still in effect, or there's some approval process being applied to Blizzard documentation that takes longer to go through than the changes to the code itself. Either way, its not a good thing.

It's the game of the future, and always will be.

This needs a fix. It's not the worst possible bug that the game could have, but it makes interacting with anyone painful.

This is seriously annoying. Please fix it. What possible 'bad effect's' could this have had. Blizz programmers suck if you can't fix a damn chat-bug.

Yes this is very annoying and needs to be fixed. We should not have to change the settings each time we log in. The last patch on Tuesday did not fix the issue.

I was hoping this bug would get fixed in 2.4.1. Instead, they fixed the bug where I could track both fish and minerals at the same time.

Dang! I really liked THAT bug.
