It's the worst-kept secret in the game.... Dueling isn't allowed in the cities <WINK>. Unless, of course, you're in Ironforge, between the bank and the AH, the center of Alliance trade on every server. If you happen to be there, trying to deal with WoW economy, you have to maneuver through every 12 year old with 2 pieces of PvP gear trying to prove he's 1337; and , of course, since they are hanging out in the City, you have to struggle to get your "WTS" seen in the morass of non-sensical, annoying, and usually offensive blather that continues non-stop like virtual sewage in the trade channel. Why? Because the lowest common denominator of maturity is encouraged to hang out in the middle of WoW's equivalent to real-world Wall Street.

Just in case the developers have been living under a rock, you can easily get around the "no-duel" rule by starting your duel behind the pillar to the right of the bank (if you're facing it, behind the mailbox). For some glitchy reason, standing there allows the game to see you in Dun Morogh, not Ironforge, and the dueling ban is avoided.

Considering the "<chuckle/wink>" I've gotten from the GMs when I've brought this issue up, I am sure that the game designers are well aware of this issue, and have been working diligently to allow it to persist. I can come up with no reason for the charade; if you're okay with dueling in the cities, just lift the ban. Unless, of course, it is somehow connected to the other worst-kept secret in the game - Blizzard is unabashedly pro-Horde, and allows this to go on simply to provide further grief for the other 75% of players who choose to play Alliance.

Either way, please make a change. Either close the loophole or open the cities up to dueling and let chaos reign.

In the meantime, I'll suffer the flood of "Dude, don't be lame" and "QQ" responses this post will undoubtedly provoke.

Dude, don't be lame

I'm not your mate, your bro.
I'm not going to be nice to you if you don't seem like an intelligent person, and certainly not if you act like "THAT WAS SO RUDE".
I have no reason to be nice to you.

The developers obviously know about this and choose to leave it in the game/ not fix it because it's both not worth the time, and something that people would be upset about if removed.

Don't worry you can duel in Thunder Bluff also. People really go to IF? Last I heard everyone chills in SW anyways. But gratz to losing to a 12 year old with only 2 pieces of pvp gear who proved himself to be more 1337 than you.

I'd play the Sunwell if the encounters were Santa Claus, Jesus Christ, John Lennon, Thrall and Luke Skywalker. They have red names and drop epix, thus, they must die.

I thought I covered that pretty thoroughly. It's common knowledge that dueling is the preferred time waster of 10-13 year olds, who also seem to revel in the limitless power to annoy anonymity affords them. Giving them a reason to hang out in IF turns the Alliance trade channel into Barrens chat.

Besides, if Blizzard intends to allow dueling to go on in IF, why did they ban dueling in the cities in the first place?

Yeah, bugs that are abused generally tend to make people upset when they get fixed, but that's how MMOs are, deal with it. People have a right to complain about this, it is annoying as hell.

Oh, you assumed that I posted this because I lost in a duel and thus rushed to the forums to demand the rules be changed? lol - no. I wouldn't waste my time dueling. I'm posting this because after 18 months of listening to 80% of trade channel focus on "[so-and-so who just got pwned in the 4,156th IF duel] FAILS", I've reached my threshold. And I would turn off trade channel, but it would be a nice resource to actually USE if it wasn't so abused.

Search Tiberium on Mannoroth. Yeah now what was that about trade chat?

If you HONESTLY think your trade chat is bad go to horde mannoroth and you will be thankful for yours. So once again, go to SW like everyone else.

I'd play the Sunwell if the encounters were Santa Claus, Jesus Christ, John Lennon, Thrall and Luke Skywalker. They have red names and drop epix, thus, they must die.

Well, go to SW if you don't like the dueling. Personally, I like to watch the two duelists make fun of each other.

And you can't help what people say in trade chat, sadly.

Wait, what?

Well, I was speaking figuratively... the point is it goes on non-stop, 24/7. The developers went to some lengths, I assume, to create a particular feel or ambience to the environment of the cities. If my assumption is correct, having a constant battle going on in the "town square" shoots that intention right in the foot.

And as for the Thunder Bluff posters, I will admit I didn't know that. But Thunder Bluff is hardly Ironforge - it would be an equal footing if dueling was allowed in OG.
