I don’t normally start threads, mostly because of all the trolling that would happen because of it. But I feel the concern I have about pet agro abilities now after the 2.4 patch is far greater than the pain of dealing with a bunch of trolls. Once again a class has been hit with either an undocumented change OR a bug (that I understand was reported on the PTR) which failed to be fixed before it went live. I know it usually gets you nowhere to ask for a response from Blizzard but hey guess what I’m going to ask for just that.

I had noticed during the day yesterday while reading the forums that people had been complaining about boar charge and how it wasn’t generating agro like it used to so when I got home from work I logged on to try a few things out. I took out gore and bite from my boar and left on charge and growl. Before 2.4, as soon as the charge would go off my boar would be impossible to pull agro from, and I mean impossible. Even if I had two crits in a row or heaven forbid 3 there was no way I was pulling agro off the boar. But after my second shot I was so far above my boars threat it wasn’t even funny. I tried this on quite a few different mob levels, making sure his charge was not being resisted. I can now officially say that Charge is a useless talent for Boars at this time and does absolutely nothing to generate threat.

From Petopia which I might add is based on what Blizzard created as a pet for hunters:
Charge is a very powerful, and popular, skill. Charge can be used only by boars, and indeed all boars know some rank of Charge when they are tamed. Charge has three basic components:
• First the boar speeds towards the target at a very fast pace!
• Second, the boar immobilizes the target for 1 second.
• Third, the boar gains some extra attack power to its next attack, which generally means that it does more damage or generates more threat (with Growl).

Again while I know it won’t do any good I would most respectfully ask that we get a response from someone that tells us this is a bug and will be fixed at some time soon and I will hope beyond hope this is not another undocumented change that Blizzard is so fond of throwing in every patch.


I've changed the title to include pet aggro as it does seem to be coming around that it is all pet aggro except maybe Screech?

It is not limited to charge. Looks like all pets are having problems holding aggro.

I use a scorpid on my level 58 hunter. I send him in with growl on auto no other skills trained. I wait for the pet to get 1k threat then auto attack, no specials. Within 5 autoshots's I have aggro. Omen reports pet has 2k threat and I have done less than 1k dammage. Pet aggro is broken....

I'm also experiencing the same problem with my boar as Kanthela described.

When I took charge off auto casting it seemed to me that growl was still generating what it was suppose to. I can not say 100% but I didn't see growl being affected. But then I'm so used to Nosey's charge owning everything in his path..... =[

I'll test this tonight with my boar (my first and favorite pet), been having issues with Omen but I'll load it UI cruft and all. I've got a solid feel for the aggro he generated pre 2.4, so I'll know immediately if Charge is broken.

If this is the case, I really hope this isn't a "working as intended" change. Hambone has been my favorite of all pets, and I'll be damned if I'm going to drop him at this point. I'll quit first, and Blizzard can stop counting my $15/month as easy money.

Charge is not generating threat like it should.I mean my level 10 hunter used a Hunting Rifle.And autoshot is outgenerating my boar's charge aggro with growl after waiting to let it gain aggro before I even start shooting and still I get the target headed my way.Something is seriously wrong.

And sometimes it just walks up to the target.Like it's not in any hurry to do anything.And when I say walk,I do mean a slow walk.And yes it had full focus.But then all pets have started the random walking thing now.

Heck even wild beasts are doing that too.No it is not lag.Low population server and far away from anyone else with one small mob does not make for lag.And I checked my connection and latency,no problems there.

So what is the deal guys?

Its something between charge and growl. Growl I've noticed has not been well being used by my pets even through they have full focus. Also on the Sunwell Isle the erratic sentires that wander around are immune to growl...

Thanks Blizzard. If I wanted to feel this violated, I'd commit a crime that would land me in prison. And I wouldn't even have to pay $15/mo. for the pleasure.

My hunter is only 46, but questing in Tanaris last night, I noticed I was stealing aggro off my boar quite often.

Before 2.4, I was able to send him in on 3 mobs, wait a second, and start shooting like crazy. Once in a while 1 mob would come after me after healing my boar, but nothing too crazy.

Last night (coupled with my mana literally disappearing at a ridiculous rate) I had the worst time of my hunter career when it came to multiple mobs. I found myself constantly running away from mobs that got loose from my boar.

Please fix Jasonboarne, and all his tamed cousins.

Just FYI I did my test on mobs in Outlands not on the isle.

It does seem to be working out that it's all pet aggro which is very very very disturbing.

It does come down to the point that a extremely VITAL part of being a hunter is horribly broken atm.

The problem extends to all pets. Im BM speced and since the patch now pull mobs off my raptor with white damage.

Bump for the hunters from a mage.

My lvl 18 Hunter and Boar have had no problems with aggro. In one battle it went like this- Tonton charges in, growls, hits, my arcane shot crits, we finish off the mob.

I wonder if this is a specific issue with a higher rank of charge.

It isn't just boars and charge. My ravager isn't holding aggro either, regardless of continent.

The problem seems to be affecting all pets, and also warlocks minions. The threat generation is not there anymore. My boar used to (before the patch) start fights with charge/growl/bite, giving me a very comfortable starting threat. I switched to my cat, and while it doesn't have the big threat spike of a charging boar, the problem is still there. It appears to be affecting every pet. It is most noticeable with the boar.

Yeah I changed the title of the thread to include all pet aggro. It's GOT to be a bug...especially now that you are saying that Locks are having issues as well.
