  • 0. Eng Pet Levels (Intended or Not?)   03/27/2008 08:16:07 AM PDT
quote locked
In the recent update of 2.4 several engineers have reported that their pets have no longer reflected the level of the eng's skill.

Examples:
375 Eng Before Patch 2.4
-Battle Chicken (lvl72)
-Mithril Dragonling (lvl72)
-Arcanite Dragonling (lvl72)

375 Eng AfterPatch 2.4
-Battle Chicken (lvl40)
-Mithril Dragonling (lvl40)
-Arcanite Dragonling (lvl50)

Before this patch these pets would level base off the eng's skill, now they seem to be based off the level of the item when it is first available. While I may not know if every engineer is concerned with this subject I would like to inform you of it.

My question to the Dev's and CM's is if this was intended as a change or was this a bug caused by your fix to Item Spells?

Q u o t e:
Item Cast Spells: Many spells cast by items were being cast as if the caster were the same level as the item. Most of those will now be cast at the player’s level, giving them a reasonable chance to miss, be dispelled, or be resisted

Any response from a Blizzard representative will be grateful thank you.

I haven't used them since the patch. If this is true, it makes me sad. I'll have to bank the little guys.

My guild loved it when I use them on BT Bosses. (Summon and swap out trinket before pulling.)

So far it seems like they are, this concerns me also with other items in eng such as the shrink ray (while roll of the dice it was funny to shrink VR and Gruul) and others.

Give it time, remember that the Bug forums focus on a lot of problems, will just be sure to post about it routinely to keep them informed though.

This was an intended change. These items were never meant to level so high. Their level is now fixed and their cooldown reduced as partial compensation.

Edit: changed question

How will the Gnomish engineering racial effect these now? Originally, it would increase the level of the creature. If it is now fixed, why even bother having the engineering racial on gnomes?

Higher engineering skill still reduces the chance for gadgets to fail.

That is, if they stop nerfing the ones people use.

does this mean that a high level battle chicken is going to be added?

I wouldn't mind this change if a bigger badder one is being added using appropriate high level bc mats. To have it nerfed into worthlessness, while equvilent pets via jc/rep are available that are not completely worthless at 70, is anoying/disheartening to say the least.

How low is the cooldown being reduced to? Because unless it's a severe lowering from the current one-hour cooldown, they're effectively useless now.

Even moreso since they require a trinket slot.

Even before this nerf these pets were useless.

My level 75 blue dragonling could not kill a trash mob in badlands, and it wasn't even a close fight.

These items were useless anyway.

/sigh

I just reported this to a GM earlier today, only to find out just now that it was intended.

I hope there is an upgrade for the dragonlings and battle chicken because they really weren't all that great to begin with in their previous form and now with the nerf, it's even worse.

Battle chickens hit for only 1 damage too(unless enraged).

Are there any other undocumented engineering nerfs we need to be aware of?

Or ANY more undocumented changes for that matter....

BTW, WHY is it that we have undocumented changes to begin with?

Wait, why nerf them into uselessness at 70 and not have a higher-level equivalent? What is the point of engineering if you don't have a mechanical pet that's worth a damn? Where is my fel iron, adamantite, and khorium dragonling? Where is my Ultra Battle Chicken 3000?!

Ugh, I've always loved engineering....and this is the first time I've considered dropping the craft ever.
