I don't really find any real money-making uses for tailoring. I'm an enchaner and i can disenchant but I don't think it's quite as efficient as a gathering skill. I'm a bit nervous about dropping it though because of all the time and effort I put into it...

I think the only crafting prof worth taking is engineering. Anything other craftable item for any other profession is easily replaced by in-game drops.

I have tailoring on all 4 of my 60+ characters, because the transmutes make so much money. If all you do is sit in Shattrath and pvp, then income from gathering professions will be 0, so you're better off with tailoring (for transmutes).

If you roam Outlands a lot with this character, and expect that to never change (you have no interest in leveling alts), then gathering professions will be your best money-maker.

If your real focus is not on money, but on pvp, then pick up engineering. You can gather for cash when you need (gas extraction), and the items you can make for yourself will give you a decent edge in pvp.

--------------------------
edit: for those who were wondering about the transmutes, it is the primal mooncloth/ spellcloth /shadowcloth transmutes. You need to reach 350, and need to be at least level 60, so that you can specialize in one. Once you do, buy the mats off the AH, make the transmute every 4 days, and sell it back to the AH.

We don't spam our transmutes in trade, because we value our time as much as our gold. Alchemists are a little dense in the head, and that's why you still see some of them spamming city trade for hours for their pithy transmutes.

Unlike Alchemy where if you drop the skill you lose all the discoveries and have to re-grind them later if you want alchemy back.

With tailoring you won't lose a lot of your best patterns since they are rep based and you can just zip back over and buy them again. Also tailoring isn't to hard to powerlevel. =)

As far as I know, transmutes are an Alchemy thing. Maybe he's a little confused.

He means the spellcloth, primal mooncloth, and shadowcloth cooldowns.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

He did...but wtf do you call those things, anyway??

Being "casual" is not an excuse to suck. It is possible to raid 2x a week (which is casual) and be properly geared and competent. Figure it out.

I think he means the "transmutes" to cloth.

If you PVP and you don't plan on doing and sort of PVE anytime soon or even in the expansion, drop tailoring. It's kinda useless, seeing as how the nets are horrible and nothing really great comes out for PVP from tailoring that you can't just buy.
Personally I would say pick up mining, and if you don't care about the enchants to rings or the easily gathering materials for enchants I would pick up engineering or JC as well. Depends on if you want some fun trinkets that are useful in PVP or some good gems/trinkets for yourself. (Also, JC makes more than Eng. because of the prospecting.)

I would recommend against it personally, just because there hasn't been any announcements made on the direction for professions in Lich King. Of course you always have the ability to re-level it if you want to, so just sort of weigh the risks and see what's going to make your play time the most enjoyable.

They are typically referred to as "cloth combines"...as opposed to transmutes which are generally alchemy

Are you hinting at tailor-made PVP items? Hm? I want a straight answer, man! I might start playing my Priest again!
