I was just doing karazhan last night and we got to chess event, and started the chess event.

So we were doing the event, and some people changed peices.
Once they changed their peices, they immediatly fell through the floor and into curator's room.
This cost us 5 minutes of running back, some of the people that fell were unable to loot the chest.

Wtb explaination.

I was in a group that had the same problem. A few were unable to loot the chest after falling before the opposing king was dead (they were switching pieces). I was controlling the king, and fell through down to the Curator's room once the match was over.

This happened to my entire raid earlier today. Three of our raiders were unable to loot the chest or were eligible for the loot because they were switching pieces when the event had ended. Our whole raid had to run back to the chess event afterwards

The problem may be when you teleport initially, but your body is "stuck" in mid air when you control your piece (kind of like that old sentry totem bug, I think). When your piece dies and/or you drop control of it, then you fall down.

I've had this occur only once on my warlock in 2.3 or maybe even 2.2.

Just finished an attempt at chess.

On taking control of a piece, you seem to be momentarily "teleported" to the balcony, then returned to your selected piece as expected. If your selected piece is killed during the fight, you drop through the floor (taking damage) to the Menagerie, instead of being returned to the balcony. If you can make the run back before the event ends, you are still able to take control of a new piece. After the opposing King is killed, anyone who had not had their piece killed will drop through the floor. Anyone who had already had their piece killed will be teleported to the balcony. It appears that anyone who had control of a piece on the board when the event ends is able to loot the chest, including those dropped through the floor at then end.

It also appears that a Silence debuff is applied to anyone dropped through the floor.

If any additional details will help, I'll supply them if I can.


Edit: No one in our raid clicked on the " control piece buff ", All floor falling we experienced was not caused by manually releasing a chess piece. I just checked with our raid to be sure (especially the people with live pieces at the end of the event), everyone was released by the pieces when they fell, no one manually released.

This occured during our karazhan run last night. I can say without a doubt that it happens when you right click your "control peice" buff. Three of your raid members fell through at the beginning of the fight after leaving their pawn peices. And six players fell through at the end of the fight.. after the chess had spawned and the king was down, also at the time they clicked their buff off.

The only person in our raid that didn't fall through the ground was someone who disconnected during the fight. Anyone that fell through before the event was done was unable to have loot master looted to them. Anyone that fell through after the boss was down was able to get loot but was unable to get badges of justice. With the only exception being the master looter who (even though he fell through the floor) was able to get badges and loot.

Edit: After reading the post before mine i felt it necessary to explain that my experience was not a "falling" or taking damage but rather it seemed i was teleported to the curators room. Again this was after the boss was dead and the chest had spawned, and after i right clicked the control peice buff. I can't say for sure if the people who left their peice before the boss was dead fell through (and took damage) or not.

just did chess, as soon as you release/drop control of a piece it teleports you to curator's room and you fall from the ceiling. one of our alt druids dropped a pawn to get a new piece and was teleported before we finished, he was unable to loot the chest items or badges... forestlord striders and mithril chain of heroism, only one in the raid that could use them couldn't loot them. the rest of us who dropped it after the game finished were able to loot it after a LONG run back.

we ticketed a gm about the druid not receiving the items or badges with no response yet, but it's very disappointing that this happened =(

Just had this happen to most of the people in my raid. I moved a pawn to start with, clicked off the "control piece" and fell down to the menagerie. Didn't make it back before the warchief died, so no chess chest for me.

Just happened for our guild. Not sure of the specifics, but I know KD dropped and I couldn't loot it. Waiting on ticket.

I also had this happen tonight while running on my alt shaman, 2 of us however we're ported to curators room when we clicked off the Debuff, he was summoned back, by that time I had run back, he was able to loot, I was not.

This happened to me also on my alt, and affected half the raid group. For some people it happened when they tried to swap pieces, for me it was when my piece died. Tried running back, but was locked out and unable to loot the chest or badges :-(

It's when your chess peice dies happened to 4 of us in my raid this weekend.

After about 4 different guild Kara runs I can comment with the following info that we've seen.

We've had people ported to Curator's room when:

#1 - Releasing a "dead" chess piece to grab another

#2 - Releasing an "active" chess piece on victory

#3 - On not releasing and waiting for the auto-release after wining (myself on my last run)

We have found that those whose pieces were "alive" at the end of the event were able to loot; but those who lost their pieces during the encounter did not receive their Badges of Justice or an opportunity at the loot.

what happens if the chest despawns and we don't get a chance to loot the badges?

this happened to me and a paladin in my guild on our weekly run on friday. I am not sure of the circumstances for him, but what happened to me was that the piece I was controlling was killed. Instead of going back to my body on the little platform, I fell through into Curator's hall

Its working as intended. Though when i got thrown to curators room during our event. I was not able to loot the chest. But 2 others in my group who were also teleported to curators room were able to loot it. Granted it was lagging heavily at that moment. The chess box shoundt hav despawned but it did. I was not able to click it also.
Please clarify the situation.

After you are no longer controlling a piece you are dropped through the balcony floor. You end up landing in The Menagerie. I have been cheated out of about 8 - 10 badges because of this. I reported the first one. After the non response from the GMs, I simply haven't bothered.

Anyways, I'm not sure if other peoples experiences will follow mine, but i had no problem manually changing pieces, it was just when mine died. As i recall, it was the when the wolf piece died that i was teleported to the curator.

I was the only one in my raid that experienced this. so either is a certain set of conditions, or an intermentant issue.
