Perhaps I missed some undocumented information regarding this, but being from a highly populated and competitive server I assumed that based on our high frequency of quest turn ins, Mal'ganis would be at the leading edge of island progression. Not even close. Mal'ganis is currently at 7% into phase 2, and I've seen countless servers with less than half our population, at varying points of progression ahead of us. Seeing how our island is flooded with players from both factions at all hours of the day, there is no possible way any/some/most/all of these servers turn in quests at a higher frequency.

So what I'm interested in knowing is what non player controllable factors are at work here? Is the total number of turn-ins required per phase based on server population? Because that would unfortunately explain the differences. Was anything posted regarding this that I have missed?

At this rate the low populated servers will be reaping the rewards at a much faster pace than the servers that are putting in a much larger quantity of time and effort. The high populated servers were the first to open the gates of Ahn'qiraj, because more people were participating on those servers. But for this event it seems to be opposite, however illogical that might seem.

This puzzles me as well. I mean, hey, I love the gold, and I guess the reputation will be nice for my shaman... but what drive is there for me to actually do the trivial amount of dailies on the island now, instead of waiting till its all said and done?

I'm not going to ram my head on teh wall doing everything three times a day (4 if I finish with my priest..65) when its not going to make a damned bit a difference.

Its scary that my horde server, Dethecus, which has a much much much lower population than Korgath, my alliance, and was at 95% when Korgath unlocked the Sanctum.

I've gone on at all times of the day, and there has been about half as many people on Dethecus in IQD as there is in Korgath.

Heck, I get a FPS drop on Korgath, Dethecus is barely a blip!

What gives Blizzard? :(

Is it a big deal to me that my alt has access to the badge reward vendor a few days after players on another server? Not really. But is it dissapointing to see this opportunity to encourage competition between servers completely wasted? Obviously. I had a lot of fun several years ago constantly checking the Blizzard hosted AQ server progression page to see which server was currently ahead. It was an exciting event.

Why should I continue to try to motivate the members of my guild to go do their dailies when people on some server with 1/10 the population is going to going to finish the next phase a week before us? I'm kind of interested to hear the reasoning for why this event was designed the way it was.

Each phase, and the subsequent "add ons" for each phase (anvil, alchemy table, etc.) require a set number of turn ins of the specific quests that fund them. There's no mechanic that increases that number. So no, a realm with a higher population is not handicapped.

There is however a mechanic that will auto-complete each phase after a set amount of time for those realms that aren't able to complete them within a "decent" amount of time.

What you may be seeing is a general cool down of people taking part in those quests? I can't really say why your realm may be seeing a slower progression aside from them just not completing as many quests as another realm.

Maybe that giant cloud of smug over your island is slowing you guys down?

A great way to combat tactics you cannot overcome is to call the people who use them names.

On Azgalor, a medium population pvp server, we're at over 15% on both the armory as well as the portal. Not really sure what to tell the OP, except that maybe what you perceive as being flooded with people doing the dailies is actually "not as flooded" as some other servers.

For those of us completely uninformed, does the badge vendor start selling badge stuff once phase 2 has been completed? Or is there one more period of time where dailies need to be done in order to get ye olde vendor?

The one, the only, the "Teranoob".

Keep in mind that Mal'Ganis (and other high pop, heavy raiding servers) have had a significant portion of their players either raiding in Sunwell (or starting to raid BT/MH for the less progressed) or running MT for toys and rep. The dailies just are not terribly compelling for raiders in general as they frankly don't much care if the island gets done immediately.

Yes, yes, everyone wants the alchemy lab and anvil out but it isn't priority number one for many guilds.
