Select "Self" instead of "Everything". Or just hide it.

The great thing about the new combat window is the huge amount of new features and flexibility it adds for mods to take advantage of. If there aren't some already that allow extremely specific control over the new combat log then I'm sure there will be some soon. Until then you can just ignore what everyone else is doing and see what's affecting you by clicking the Self button.

I enjoy the new log

A) First,

B) It was funny watching the "Everything" tab scroll like it was on cocaine,

C) Just another step in the right direction (didn't get to use it more in pvp since I have to head to sleep),

D) First.

even when you have it on "self" only, it still spams every single action in the recent past and scrolls through it all for about 10 seconds after loading anywhere new. its a little ridiculous.

Unless, of course, you ran multiple versions of the combat log window, each showing different combat information... Then you lost functionality, because now combat information is only available in the combat log window and not any other.

Unless I'm a moron and missed how to get combat information in other windows after quite a while of trying to figure it out.

I honestly didn't expect I'd have to spend less time getting my mods to a 'near 2.3' state than my chat windows...

I like it. As a priest, I die a lot.

So I like to click "What happened to me?" button and read up on how easily that warrior pummel'd me to the ground.

Looks like there's a temporary workaround for that: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=5540035829&pageNo=1&sid=1#0

But the thing is, the combat log, when set to "Self" still picks up crafting done by other people. If I click the "Self" button again, they go away, but when they happen, they still appear in the log.

It is still bugged. I bugged it after every new PTR build stating that both Self and What Happened to me are not filtering out friendly messages especially when you have the Enemy Players box checked among other things.

Sounds like an issue. It's certainly a first iteration on a fairly ambitious change to the combat log. You may want to visit the UI & Macro forum for assistance in possible workarounds, and of course the Bug Report forum is great for reporting any issues that seem kind of weird, like the one you described.

All the new combat log does now is give me fps spikes, i'm glad there's a temporary fix, just can't wait to disable it completely. We install addons for a reason (Protip: The standard blizzard UI is garbage)

At least give us the OPTION to use the old log.

Meh, it won't be long before mods are updated/created to fix the issues. I have faith in the mod community.

You act like they ever actually QA patches.

You can't do adequate QA AND get the patches out in the time that the players demand. The two are mutually exclusive.
