"Bobby Kotick, chairman and CEO of Activision, soon to be Activision Blizzard, recently said that the company will be trying to maximize revenues out of the highly anticipated StarCraft II. To do this, Kotick asserts a new business model for the franchise, which could potentially include in-game advertising."

To remind everyone, Blizzard previously denounced any changes as a result of the merger:

"This will not impact Blizzard’s games."
"There will be no changes in the way Blizzard operates."
"[B]oth of our companies will continue to operate as they have previously with regard to game development."
"the transaction will not have any impact on our games"

Can it possibly mean they are putting advertisement on the .net waiting room? Nah, it's too crazy, it's better to believe they are putting Coca-Cola ads on the walls of terran spaceships.

If it reaches WoW... I have 1 question.

If the designated advertising spots are free game to anyone who wishes to buy them...

What happens when IGN buy them?

All I have to say is if I see adds in my game I better be getting to play for free.

The sad part is that this IS my main.

It's extremely unlikely they'll put ads anywhere in WoW except the loading screens and main menu windows. There's just nowhere they could set up ads in the actual game world that would be prominent enough to warrant the work, but wouldn't look out of place or cause a very negative reaction from players.

If this were City of Heroes, you might expect to one day be bounding across Paragon City and pass a Coca-Cola billboard. I seriously doubt you'll be seeing goblins at the Booty Bay Auction Hall wearing Activision t-shirts, though. I think the boldest they'd ever get are a few Starcraft relics littering the game world like the crash site in Tanaris - you know, stuff that can be explained off as an anachronistic little shout-out to their other games.

So I buy a game with my hard earned money and then while playing it I am subject to tons of advertising. I don't think I would buy any games that did that.

I would buy the game and play it.

My primary goal in life would then be to circumvent and disable any built in advertising client and making it as mass-distributable as possible.

If I see any ads in WoW, my subscription rate better go down. I don't pay 15 dollars a month to have ads crammed down my face because they think it will actually make me want to buy some piece of crap product because I saw it in a video game.
