I'm not quite sure what to say about this. We haven't released any information about specific system requirements for the next expansion.

I think it's best to take what your friend has said with a grain of salt and wait until we are further along to talk about system requirements.

Keep in mind too that we have always tried to do our best to both advance the development of the game as well as balance the system requirements necessary so as to make the game as available to as many people as possible.

Friend of mine (who works at gamestop) was telling me that almost every game coming out now is requiring windows vista. I told him that it probably only recommends it. He countered by showing me the box for Shadowrun which clearly said REQUIRES WINDOWS VISTA.

I was kind of in shock. He went into a rant about how Microsoft likes to require that type of thing from game developers and how i shouldnt get to comfortable with WoW because the next expansion will probably force me to upgrade to Vista as well.

blizzard has too many macintosh users to make WOTLK for vista....

in truth the only thing that keeps blizzard somewhat popular, is the fact that it is the only MMORPG that is for macintosh.

I hope that it puts application data in my user profile, rather than in the installed program directory. Having to right-click-run-as-admin all the time is kinda bothersome.

Shadowrun was a crappy game. WotLK will not be and Blizzard knows they need to cater to as much of the world as possible. It will be quite a while before Vista becomes the standard (look how long it took people to move from 2000 to XP after XP came out).

Neth may not now what to say (or may not want to be so blunt), but I do. Your gamestop friend is an idiot. The only way it would "require" vista is if they completely reworked the entire game engine to use DX10. That includes the original, BC, and WotLK, because you can not have 1 part of the game use one engine while another part of the game uses another. Other than DX10, there is nothing in Vista that isn't in XP.

I was mostly just annoyed that certain quests I could never do with my warrior (this one) are suddenly easy as pie for my rogue

Your friend is either being an ass or just entirely misinformed. Shadowrun is Vista-only. However, it and like one other game that came out were involved in this big push for Vista gaming which took place like 6-12 months ago.

That push failed so badly that Dell forced Microsoft to allow them to continue selling machines with XP. Since then, no games that have come out have been Vista-only. Now they all have that "Games for Windows" logo, which basically means they work in XP or Vista.

Still, if you want DirectX 10, you have to have Vista. I personally don't think it's worth it, though.
