For me, it was a toss up between Secret of Mana and Mega man series. I'm sorry, I never got to play Final Fantasy, never played a FF game in my life so boo. But I think for me, Megaman was my favorite series from the NES to SNES, because i like action games more to rpgs

I'd do these female races in order in game; dwarves, night elves, draenei, humans, blood elves, trolls and orcs last.
I dont do female gnomes, tauren or undead women, das nasty

I would say Chrono Trigger, except I refuse to acknowledge the other game as being related to the greatness, which would mean it isn't a series. FF is a totally trite answer and totally wrong. Good games (at least, some of them), but the main characters being emo/pansies/!%@@#s/women is gay. The series was still good on the Playstation (and X was quite fun, although banal at points), but it peaked on the SNES.

I guess Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario Bros (Super Mario World being the best platformer of the SNES era) were big ones for me. As an individual game, Contra was greatness, but as a series... some real taints there. I liked Mega Man, but wasn't a major enthusiast and the series really started sucking after several entries. I did love Secret of Mana, but I guess I'll say Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World are too much for any other game series to overcome.

oh shi, i forgot about sonic the hedgehog series! i love sonic. New answer for me is the Sonic Series

Loved it, but if you can honestly say you think any sonic game was better than Super Mario Brothers 3, you need to be clubbed to death. (Rob Dougan)

Mario 3 was the best game for NES. I still remember getting it for my fourth birthday. I was amazing.
Contra was awesome too, still have to beat it without the infinate lives code.
FF series was awesome. FF VI (US 3) was such a great game with a great soundtrack.
Chrono Trigger was the best game of all time. Who doesn't love Frog's theme?
Secret of Mana was a great game too, but you left out Secret of Evermore. That game rocked.

Needless to say, anything made by Square for the SNES, Shining Force, Warsong, Zeldas, Marios, and don't let us forget Street Fighter and Killer Instinct.

And just for a little more, TMNT!!!!!!!!

I could talk all day about old games.
