It's about balancing the other classes by bringing the overscaling of locks back down to other casters. If they don't do that, there won't be any need to diversify classes in raids unless those raid encounters specifically need a tool that another dps brings to the table.

I despise damage meters when running my tank or healer, and was ashamed to be excited when one got posted while running with my lock.

ASHAMED!

Damage meters in the wrong hands are the single most dangerous thing in a PvE environment, hands down. They lead to more wipes than all bosses put together :P

I have a 70 warlock, a 70 druid, and a 70 paladin. If I had any less of a life I'd be gnawing on your skull to get at your brains.

Lifetap only gets worse if you stack stam at the expense of INT. It will still scale well as long as you dont neglect your intellect.

Its obvious that blizzard intends INT to be an important stat for warlocks going forward. Maybe they thought it was unbalanced to have a caster class that could ignore their mana pools for all intents and purposes.

This does NOT I repeat NOT change a Warlocks DPS In a raid. AT ALL.

The Warlock will still lifetap, and that lifetap will still be healed by a healer.

A Warlock with 2 points in improved life tap will barely see a change at all in mana return (they will most likely see more mana in fact), but they will see a larger HP reduction - which is irrelevant to their DPS.

If you suddenly think a lock will be doing less DPS in a raid because of this nerf, then you are proving just how little you understand the Warlock class.


Way to prove how little you understand the class/change. Less mana back from Life Tap = more Life Tapping = less dps.

please do not forget that this nerf doesnt exist in a vacuum. they nerfed the efficiency of ONE of your mana regen spells, but BUFFED another. overall nerf, but hopefully we wont have locks in our raids bragging that they never have to use mana pots anymore..

also, is it really fair to be able to convert the cheapest(itemization-wise) stat into the most useful stat on a 1:1 ratio?
mages have to convert 2:1 mana for hp, converting our most useful stat into the most abundant...

now, instead of just simply making the LT ratio a flat 1.5:1 or whatever, they gave YOU the ability to define your own!! if you cant handle that... well, i can't help you.



Hey, idiot? Not all enemies have mana, both in PVE and PVP. Also, drain mana COSTS mana. You have to get at least 3 ticks off of it to make it worthwhile, which means you stand there attempting to channel something for 5 seconds (not doable in pvp) while doing no damage (suicide in pve) in order to get about a third of the mana back that lifetap would give you.

Oh and drain mana got buffed AND nerfed. Get your facts straight.

pssssst - put 2 points into improved life tap and retest.

1. Nobody likes being feared.
2. Nobody likes DoTs.
3. People hate pets.

Most of the QQ posters wouldn't be satisfied if locks were nerfed...not really. They just hate the way the class works.

First, I would make the assumption that per capita, more mages raid then do locks, as there is a more heavy lock pvp population per capita then mages.

Second, locks are more times then not, ahead of mages and priests on damage meters.

Third, from personal experience, outside of kara, you don't hear over vent, "GO INVIS!!!! YOU'RE DOING TOO MUCH DAMAGE!!!" You usually hear, "SOUL SHATTER, NOW!!!!"

Am I missing something? Or is the change only that it went from 20% to 16% (of both max heatlh and max mana) - meaning, maybe once extra GCD of Life Tap every 3 minutes or so?

Edit: nvm. Current rank 1 is 20% for 20%, the rest are fixed values.

Quite honestly, we wanted warlocks to take a larger hit to their hit points when lifetapping in PvP. While in PvP, this means they will take a bigger hit to their health, in PvE it will have smaller impact (and actually can be gamed for an improvement via higher intelligence and lower stamina).

Same amount of mana returned, more health used.

For the most part.

Go tank one of the numerous boss encounters were it is needed to have a Warlock Tank. Ill be laughing my ##@% off when you life tap and kill yourself cause you can't cast because of not enough mana. And you can't LT because of not enough health.
