its all about balance. if your ap is too low, it doesnt matter how much crit you have. you're gonna be gimped

i agree with you completely. i am in the same boat as you. they wanna talk trash oh your crit is low i will always outdps you then comes the raid and own them by 3-4% overall damage then they shut up

Yes, I agree about the balancing. That's what I've been trying to do. I have 22% crit, 1300 AP and 130 hit rating...I did the dumb thing and gemmed for hit, this will be corrected and should increase my crit in the process. Got some hit items coming so should all be good.

And to Grim, that is basically what i was thinking. 28-30 crit with 1600 base ap (no shout up) and bout 150 hit.

Some of my to get items include

Fel leather leggings
Fel leather boots
Chestplate of Ad'al
I like my ragesteel gloves to much to trade them in for fel leather ones.

I'm shooting for S2 OH and S1 MH...that is about all i have on my current to get list. Rings belt and trinkets are a pain.

Edit: To Dolroth, Noted

i would aim for 180-220 hit, as fun as bloodthirst and whirlwind are, white damage is still 40 or more % of your damage (usually ends up as 45% of mine), so there's no reason to gimp it to see big pretty numbers. remember that burst damage<sustained damage

You have a good balance, but you'd see greater DPS with the T4 helm. Do you guys run Kara any longer?

I had stats similar to yours. 2006 AP, 31.96% crit and 200 hit. I dropped a couple of my +hit items for AP/crit to get my current stats and so far it's showing a slight DPS increase overall.

Just echoing what everyone else here is saying, be balanced. What numbers to balance for are unique for almost everyone based on gear level and raiding level.

At my level I try to keep over 1900 attack power unbuffed, 200 hit rating, and 30% crit with any gear I get. My hit rating and crit is my baseline though, attack power almost never goes below 1900 unless I use my Sapphire for certain fights where the group benefits from it more than I do from having my Brooch on. My only rule that I NEVER break is to never for any reason go below 200 hit, and for no reason go below 30% crit. With my getting my Dragonstrike crafted in the last few days, I've stopped using my s2 offhand sword and switched my Talon back to off-hand going to a slow/slow configuration. This put me below 30% crit, so I sacrificed a bit of my 1938 AP to go from a Sovereign Nightseye in my bracers to a Jagged Talasite, putting me back over 30% crit.

Just be balanced with what stats you have.

Q u o t e:
30-33% is a good range. No, there is no magic number. Pushing past 33% crit can put you over 40% crit raid buffed, and crit has diminishing returns in regards to flurry uptime.

really?

I've had this argument with the Fury warrior in our raids (I'm usually Prot, but spec Fury from time to time for farm content). He kept saying zomg have to have 33% crit so 1 of every 3 is a crit and Flurry stays up! But he was gimping his AP to do so. No.

There is no magic number. It's fluid. More crit will help keep Flurry up, yes, but it's not like the 490 Defense magic number or the 95 Hit magic number. More crit will just mean that stretches without Flurry will be less likely, but you will still get them.

Do not gimp your AP for Crit. Both are important, and AP is generally more important. Do not use +8 Crit gems. Use +8Strength for most slots, and +4Strength/+4Crit for yellow slots and +4Strength/+6Stam for blue slots if the set bonus is good.

The numbers change in relation to each other, so there is no set ratio. But according to my gear plugged into MaxDPS.com, roughly...

8 Strength = 9 Crit Rating = 15 Hit Rating (after 95)

If you only have 25% Crit unbuffed, but have 2000 AP unbuffed, it's not the end of the world. That's better than 30% Crit and 1500 AP. Just take the best gear available to you, with as much AP and Crit as possible. And don't be afraid to wear pieces that don't have Crit on them, IF they have massive AP to make up for it.

Here's a question to add to this thread. As 17/44/0 fury (keep in mind PVE), is there any real advantage to having fist, axe, sword, or mace arena/bg weapons? As in, are any of them prefered for dps reasons or does it come to personal prefernce?

Only races with bonuses from racials should worry about weapon type (i.e. - Orcs w/ Axes, Humans w/ Mace and/or Sword)

While I agree there is no exact number to shoot for in crit, in 2.4 we plan to make the off-hand weapon critical hits from Whirlwind trigger Flurry and Rampage which should improve damage a bit.

Is the related Flurry bug being fixed?

The one where Flurry will not refresh if there's only one charge left.

Check out my armory. I feel I've done pretty well balancing crit/ap/hit on this guy. I raid with my pally, so I use my warrior mostly for farming now days. He has 2 pieces from kara(hands and cape), but other than that he is geared in non-raid, non-badge, non-PvP gear. I'd say my crit is a tad low for my gear level, I'd like to add another 1% or so.
