With this gear (dunno if this was updated. Mantle of Nimble thought, bracers of nimble thought, off-hand haste, haste pants, Aldor T4) I did two weeks in row SSC-Lurker, which is IMO a pretty obvious pure damage fight.

I out dpsed by three-four % mages heavily in T5....

you dun have hit rating problem. you prolly lose on crit.

23.14% crit rate is low for a fire mage

I was thinking of getting the haste gear to test it out on frost in raids. Being top DPS and avraging in around 6th in over all damage (being on of the better mages, im stuck with taking care of sheeps, (lurker) Tanking (HK) and cubes (Mag) the 3 fights that are best ATM to test damage done.)

Adding in over what you have the ring and sword from ZA.

You are 22 spell hit below the cap. Any advantage you might have had with your spell haste is easily negated by resists. Grab the spellstrike hood to cap your spell hit until you can get the ZA hood or the one off VR. That advice assumes you want to keep your Badge pants.

Sheeping on Lurker should have about zero overall affect on your dmg. You lose, what, maybe 15s of spell casting overall?

I'll agree on the other two.

What level of haste does one need to really make it worth while?

22 hit away from being capped CAN be a big deal at times. Try to hitcap any way you can, as long as you don't give up too much of another stat to reach it.

If you're taking the time to get badge gear, you should be able to get spellstrike. The hood is going to help you a helluva lot more than that T4 helm. 22 spell hit is alot.

Spellstrike is better than the T4 hat and the haste pants if you're not hit capped. I would wear both spellstrike since you are a tailor and can get the bonus, and switch out your bloodgem to something else.
Your gear is pretty good though, maybe it's you're technique.

Crit is the 4th stat for any Mage spec anyways. Spell hit is #1, Spell haste is #2 if you have high spell damage (Otherwise spell dmg is #2) .... and only if the Spell Haste item worths.

Haste gear is great, and undervalued by most mages -- on mage friendly boss fights (ones that have decent stretches where you can just nuke), I usually come in the top 2 on the meters.

(Note: I am hit capped, as I have an ele shaman in my group -- assuming I didn't log out in my PvP gear).

We keep one sheeped the whole time, To make sure there are no problem i resheep ever 15 seconds or so, as well before every spout, and dive. I find that im only activly dpsing about 65-75% of the time, (using WWS). there are other things effecting me in the past few fights there though, im normal stuffed with the shaman and shadow priest, both of who have been MIA.

My biggest problem for testing it on frost though is the fact that though we do good in 25 mans, we can't seem to get our za group moving. Where several peices that i want for my haste set, and +Hit gear can be found.

Although not terribly relevant to your discussion I thought I'd jump in and let you know about some Spell Haste changes in the upcoming patch.

In 2.4, Spell Haste will reduce the global cool down on spells, down to a minimum of 1 second. It won't apply to melee and ranged abilities though however.
