Loot is determined, at least in my opinion, not when the monster spawns, nor when the monster is killed, but the moment the monster is looted.

Anytime sooner does not make any sense whatsoever.

If you'll notice, hacks in this game have been strictly contained to applications changing character location, speed, and collision. Guess what is controlled by the client in WoW?


Again you never played this game at launch.

Add-ons would let you inspect the opposing faction, know thier levels, and anythign you wanted to know. The data was there. You may not be able to manipulate it but the early add-ons did alot.

The original wow client may not have _controlled_ much more than your listing but it recieved a ton of info it dind't need to that has sense been locked down.

IDEALLY this data should not hit the client. Guess what: It was Blizz's first MMO and much of the data did.

Wow, I have wondered about that for a long time

Edit: wouldnt that take a lot more memory though? I mean, it would be more efficient (maybe?) to create the loot upon the mobs death, otherwise you have to track what each mob in the game is carrying.

I played this game at launch, so quit yapping about it like it makes you special or something.

Data being sent to the client when it requests it through an interface function has no relation to the client being able to request data about mob drops.
Blizzard has had that stuff locked down since day one. They learned with Diablo 2 what to expect from hackers.

Ugh. So that means that mob that died up on a hill where I can't loot it was destined from the beginning to have the item I wanted on it :(

What about quest items? Is it decided at mob creation time that a given mob will drop a quest item if a player on that quest happens to kill it? Or are quest item drops determined at the time of the kill?

What are the variables in the random generator's kernel, is it based on some attribute of the players in the raid, or the raid leader? As an example we have a 100% drop rate on bows from Illidan and Archemonde after maybe 15-25 kills. Some stuff we just never see, some stuff we see with too much regularity to consider the system random.

Would it benefit us to form a raid of level 1 alts with 1 different raid leader and create an instance with that setup then invite the actual raiders after the instance is created?
