I thought they should have done this back at 60 with nexus crystals. Was so lame that the guild banks would get FLOODED with the crystals, but had no real way to get brilliant shards as easily. Although at least back then we had DM north that could be cleared relatively fast and you could DE all of the loot from the chest for shards

You're pretty close, but it's actually going to be a part of Enchanting. Once every 24 hours, through Enchanting (not Alchemy) you'll be able to split a Void Crystal into two Large Prismatic Shards. This is through a new recipe that's being added in 2.4.

This helps reduce the exorbitant prices currently being seen for Large Prismatics, and helps raise the value of the Void Crystals. While this is the only change planned in 2.4 to help the Void Crystal prices, we're still looking at the possibility of additional 'help' for Void Crystal value in the future.

I think void prices will stay kinda low, since 1) they're so rarely used, 2) they're are unimaginably plentiful, 3) the transmute timer will limit conversion. As an example, primal earth sells for 5g each still despite it easily being transmuted to a 15-20g primal water every day.

But of course I ran straight to AH and bought a couple stacks. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Because alchemists break down enchanting mats already..... right.... /fail

Enchanters already do this. We can turn 3 small prismatic shards into 1 large shard, and vica versa, it only makes sense that they be able to do the same conversion with void crystals / LPS.

But enchanters already have the ability to turn a nexus into small prismatic, and 3 small prismatic into a large prismatic and a large prismatic into 3 smalls. So it makes perfect sense that we would still be the ones converting them. Conversion of enchanting mats should be an enchanting skill. Of course, that leaves us to wonder why transmuting a meta is alchemy and not jewelcrafting.

Crap. I just sold a bunch of void crystals that had been taking up bank space for months and months and months and months because I had no use for them. :-/

Because your not "Transmuting" the crystal, your spliting it.

I have a Alch that is a master transmute and a Ench and I have to say under no reason do I think a Alch should get this as a transmute. To be honest I don't they should be able to transmute gems either as that should be a JC job. (also have a JC)
