Yes I played LotRO... I wanted to be a Hobbit and see The Shire in 3D? Happy? (Did I just lose my cool card?)
On to the subject…
From LotRO can we "borrow" the title system? WoW should have a lot more titles. There should be a title for everything. If you want to take the time to kill 10000 Murlocs just so you can be known as "The Scourge of Murlocs", you should be able to. Plus you can then display said title to other people. I guarantee every player in the game would have it. I know I would since I friggin hate Murlocs. The sound they make makes me want to drive down to the nearest orphanage and kick the kids there.

From Tabula Rasa we need to “borrow” the city stealing/capture system. If no one defends a neutral outpost (Area 52, etc) it will be taken over by NPC’s. Then players need to work together to capture it back! Otherwise no quest turn ins/shops, etc.
This is just a really cool feature that should be in every game. Should be really fun on PvP servers too!

From Warhammer we should “borrow” the tome feature.
This will keep track of all the mobs you killed, what their weaknesses and strengths are, some flavor text on the mob, etc, etc. It would get filled in every time you kill a new mob. The more mobs of that type you kill, the more info the tome provides you.

That is all.

/Thoughts?

This has been in the game for over a year in Nagrand. Halaa is a nuetral town that can be taken over by one faction or the other. You have to do bomb runs to kill the opposing faction's guards and then take the town over. It would be nice if town was expanded a little bit though.

After 8 hours of play, my LoTRO toon had six titles.

Titles are kinda worthless when they are that easy to get.

LoTRO, reminds me of work where instead of paying us more, they give us bigger titles.

1- Titles are fluff. Couldn't care less whether they are added or not. They mean nothing.
2- We already have that. And people don't even fight for Halaa. I also don't want to have to pull in my guild every time I want to quest in an area.
3- You have tons of website with mob info out there.

I want to start by saying I agree with you.

but I don't think blizzard does.

The title thing is something they'll say is coming later, but they won't do it. People have been suggesting this for quite a while, but it always slides down their priority list. Which is funny, because the pvp titles are nice... They experimented with the champion of the naruu title, but my guess is they'll mostly stick to pvp titles.

Blizzard is too afraid of upsetting its subscription base to make an important town conquerable. Look at Halaa. This was blizz's experiment with the concept, but note that halaa isn't worth anything. by the time you can really help in capturing it, the rewards are pretty useless, (except for that 18 slot bag). If a real town was conquerable, too many people would QQ that they couldn't finish their quests. Hence, risk adverse blizz will not do it.

The tome feature would be really awesome.. but they'll give the excuse that it takes too much programming time and uses too much memory... same reason hunters haven't gotten an extra stable slot for pets, even though its needed...

but yes, I'd support all of these features.

Excellent ideas. Makes me want to play Tabula Rasa now. I just wish the graphics in that game were better...

Everquest had tons of websites with quest information that told you who you needed to talk to and where to go to do the quest. You just had to keep it all written down in a notebook that sat next to your computer in order to remember. Clearly this was an acceptable solution, with no need for an in -game quest log.

Halaa can only be taken over by players. What he is refering to is an NPC assault on the town. Sort of like what happened in the scourge invasion event except that the NPCs can actually take and hold the town.

that's not really what he's getting at. If the other faction controls halaa there really is no incentive to go get it back. Now if halaa was a major quest hub for the area, then you might actually have people fight over it.

We want titles to be meaningful in WoW and not commonplace. Our goal is to release more titles sparingly, so that the titles carry weight with other players. We do have a lot of plans for some new systems incoporating titles in Wrath of the Lich King. More information will be coming out on that soon.

Also, we feel like we have to be careful about rewarding people for behavior that might not be the best game experience. As much as everyone loves killing Murlocs, I feel like I have a moral and social responsibility not to encourage you to grind out 10,000 Murloc kills.

You'll always be the Scourge of the Murlocs in my book, Lexorn. No need to grind that much ;)

I feel a sudden urge to exterminate all of Murloc kind.

See, that's the problem. Halaa is worthless by the time you can fight for it. Plus it's PvP only. If waves and waves of NPC's kept coming at it untill their "base" was destroyed (taking 4 hours to respawn) and dropping cool loot, and xp along the way, I am sure no one would mind. It can be a "quest" which gives a reward if you participate in the destruction of the NPC base. Also Halaa is just not fun. You do bomb runs on the guards, then try to cap. Froget that. Just have it be regular PvE combat. You kill waves of mobs and beat them back to their base, then destroy it and fight a base boss. Then get a reward.

Max em out. At max settings TR looks much better then WoW. WoW graphics are actually pretty blah going from medium to max, where as TR actually looks good. Plus with the new graphic updates LotRO look awesome maxed out. WoW has very poor graphics compared to those other 2 games.

Q u o t e:

Why can't you make it so that cities like Halaa (well, pick another one, not Halaa) give a server wide buff to players, if it is controlled by your faction?

That would provide an incentive for players to capture and hold it. For example, a 3% increase in damage while the city is held or something.

Just having zone specific buffs was a good start, but it needs to be more epic than that.

That's a cool idea. Maybe we'll do something like that with Lake Wintergrasp.

Move some nice juicy daily quests there and you can be sure it'll be fought over.
