If you are experiencing issues with the Blizzard Launcher Tools Patch process or if the game is not launching properly after the update has been applied, please try each of the suggestions below:

- Please make sure you are using the Launcher.exe file to start the game. If you're not sure how to check that, here are some simple instructions:

1. Open up the World of Warcraft directory.
2. Look for the file Launcher.exe.
3. Right click on the file and select "Create Shortcut"
4. You should now have a filed called "Shortcut to Launcher.exe"
5. Right click on the shortcut and select "Cut"
6. Close the World of Warcraft directory.
7. Go to a blank spot on your desktop and right click. Select "Paste"

This should now move the shortcut to Launcher.exe to your desktop. Please use this newly created shortcut to start the game.

- Moving the World of Warcraft folder to a different directory has been also known to resolve this issue. If World of Warcraft was installed to the default location (C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft) please try moving it out of the Program Files directory.

1. Double click on "My Computer"
2. Double Click on "Local Disk (C:)"
3. Double click on "Program Files"
4. Locate the World of Warcraft folder
5. Right click on the World of Warcraft folder and select "Cut"
6. Go to your Desktop, right click on an empty area and select "Paste". This will move your World of Warcraft directory to the Desktop.
7. Use the steps above to recreate a new Launcher.exe shortcut.
8. Launch the game.

- Please also make sure you have Administrator account access on your computer. To find out which user accounts are marked as Administrator accounts, please see the instructions below:

-Click Start > Control Panel and look for an icon called User Accounts.
-Double click this and it should bring up a list of users on your computer.
-Find the user account that matches your user name and have a look in the group column, it may say administrator, power user or user. This is what type of account you are logged on with. If it says administrator you should be ok.

If you are using Windows Vista, please use the following steps to run the Launcher in administrator access mode:

1. Right click on the World of Warcraft icon.
2. Select "Run as Administrator"

Now please try launching the game again.

I don't know what you guys did with that launcher update, but you broke my game. I'm getting unknown entity bugs, question marks all over, a naked character, and can't stay in game for more than 15 secs before I disconnect. I was literally playing fine two hours ago. Logged out, decided to check the AH before bed, the launcher update ran, and boom, messed up game.

Ok, the first time I had this problem was as well because of a patch. I dont know why the finger gets pointed at our internet providers when we are playing perfectly fine before the damn patch uploads. Now This is getting old and fast, this is the type of thing that makes dedicated players spend there cash otherwise. Cant you guys try the new patches out first in multiple different computers to make sure that it will test well before you launch it?

P.S

Hope WarHammer comes out soon.....

Well, after downloading three different registry repair programs (I kept getting blue screen messages after I would try and load this character), we thought maybe the problem was with the launcher. Now I'm starting the program without the launcher but none of my mods are working. Is this because the add-ons are in a different folder of the program? I realize that I have to go through the interface folder, and then to the add-ons, but I don't see how this could affect the way they run with the game.

I've had to reinstall mods this week because I'm operating on a different computer. I don't feel like completely removing them and then reinstalling, so I hope there's another solution to this problem. I'm going to try the launcher shortcut described above and see if that works, but if it doesn't, I'm kind of at a loss.

edit: The above directions yield the same results as just going into your WoW program folder, and using the WoW button to go straight to the game start up screen instead of using the launcher. At least for me, because my problem is that the mods still do not work after attempting both of these strategies. They've been completely disabled, but are still in the add-ons folder. They're just seemingly inaccessible without the normal start up that doesn't involve all of this running around.

Any advice on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Same for me, i get home from work and want to play

Q u o t e:
1. Open up the World of Warcraft directory.

This did nothing for me until i did the next part.

Q u o t e:
1. Double click on "My Computer"

Went through all these steps and redid the above shortcut, now everything is back to normal. Just a shame I did the old delete the WTF folder trick to see if that was the problem.

Anyway to the Blizz rep, thanks for putting this up in the forums, just a shame you have to in the first place for something that seems so irrelevant as a launcher update.
Hope this helps any other frustrated people out there.

None of these methods worked for me, either. I'm playing by using the wow.exe file.

I've scanned by entire computer with AVG and Spybot (do so every day, anyway). I've reinstalled, move the files around, none of it works.

Please don't chalk this up to user error, there's some problem with the launcher.

Seems the workaround for me is to just go to the directory where WoW is installed and double-click Laucher.exe. I think a double-click on WoW.exe would amount to the same thing.

I believe the problem surrounds the use of a LINK or SHORTCUT. I believe some files that are being used by WoW are not getting their source path initialized properly. Hence why executing Launcher.exe or WoW.exe directly in its home directory works. Just a theory.

Cheers,
/kook

Update...having issues logging on some of my characters still. The workaround doesn't help. /wrists

I try to launch de game, following the instructions given but nothing works. When im actually installing the patch, it stops at 24% and shows an error.

The patch "base\signaturefile" could not be applied. (Invalid source file size: expected 2048978, actual 2049071.) If this problem persists, you may be able to solve it by uninstalling and then reinstalling the game. If you are unable to correct this problem, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (BNUpdate::PTCApply)
To check this installation for problems, click the "Repair" button. The Repair tool can automatically fix many update errors.

(by the way, the "Repair" button dit absolutely nothing)

Tried relocating the World of warcraft file, tried making a shortcut out of the Launcher, but it still didnt work. Anybody know how I can keep playing WoW?

Yea, I think I have it sorted out but I have noticed that scanning for Auctioneer has now slowed down to a crawl. One thing I did that help is check the show launcher box at the startup screen and that seemed to help for NPCs showing up as unknown but it didn't do anything for the super sluggish auctioneer scanning

Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but it would also help to check your folder properties and made sure your World of Warcraft folder isn't set for READ ONLY.

For some weird reason, my folder was checked Read Only. This prevented the patcher from working right and also caused me to be unable to save any UI modifications I made (ositions of bars and such).

After making sure it wasn't marked read only, I haven't had a problem, the patcher worked right and my UI changes saved.

I did ALL of the above tricks and workarounds - no dice - any other suggestions? I have real life to give me stress and tease me - I don't need a game doing that. I can't log in this character or my hunter alt. One's in Allerian Stronghold and the other's in Ironforge so I know its not an outland issue. Once I try logging in my warrior - within 30 seconds my internet connection as well as WoW goes completely off and locks up my computer if I don't close out WoW fast enough.

Repeated scans by adaware, spybot, AVG, /dnsflush trick (its helped before), total UI reset and repair and of course the workarounds listed in this forum thread - none have had any effect. Only thing I haven't done is totally reinstall wow but from what I'm seeing that's not gonna help either is it?

Good job Blizzard - for a mere launcher update I'm now FORCED to play my lowbie mage - one of the few alts I can still log into. I'm guessing a corrupted file got sent out and the repair's not picking it up. Just guessing..Shame we gotta wait til Monday to do a little phone yelling.....

FIX THIS

Tried wiping and reinstalling WoW on my guildies' suggestion - still no dice.......

Add to the list
- defragging the drive where WoW is installed - the boot drive as it happens
- updating gfx drivers fully
- changing network drivers
- multiple scans by Avast and Trendmicro Housecall
- any and all extraneous temp files, cookies, etc purged from the computer..

still no change......
