hey guys i just hit a 2.5k backstab!!!!!!!!! but i miss 50% of my other attacks /cry
also for raiding i would pick up the fel leather gloves put +8 hit in them and throw some +8 hit in your pants
also if you cant find some bracers with hit just put a +8 hit in your bracers whats the point in having so much AP if you miss alot of your hits
For one, the first 5 points of weapon skill were 3% hit against level 73/skull mobs (0.4%, 0.4%, 0.4%, 0.4%, 1.6%). All subsequent points of weapon skill were 0.1% against any level mob (as were the first five points against level 72 and under enemies).
Also, bosses have a dodge chance of 6.5%, not 5%, thusly making the expertise cap 26 (skill, not rating).
The introduction of expertise was a very nice buff to all melee classes, and a tremendous buff to tank TPS and even Mitigation via boss parry reduction.
Q u o t e: Pre-BC, glancing blows were caused by bosses having 315 defense, and you having 300 weapon skill. If you got your weapon skill to 315, you pushed glances off the table. This was a huge huge portion of rogue dps. (40 percent glances on bosses).
Well, blizzard thought that was too powerful, so they changed that mechanic and nerfed the frequency of glances. Now, glances only happen on 25 percent of white attacks, but they cannot be pushed off the table. A glancing blow does partial damage and cannot crit.
At this point, weapon skill was useless, so blizzard made bosses require 28.5 percent hit to not be missed, but the first 10 points of weapon skill (henceforth, WeX or weapon expertise from a rogue standpoint) mitigated that 3 percent hit.
WELL. Apparently that wasn't good with blizzard either, so they've changed the mechanic yet again. Now, we need 28.5 percent hit to push misses off the table on bosses. Weapon skill exists, but it's pointless.
Expertise rating pushes dodge/parry (for rogues, dodge) off the table, replacing them with hits. WeX gives us 10 expertise, or 2.5 percent less dodge.
Behold the progression of rogue hit tables. We need to push 28.5 percent miss and 5 percent dodge off the table, just so we can have 25 percent glances and some hits and crits.
ok dude so you TOTALLY missed what i was asking and went off into the blue. Just need to know how to reduce the frequency of glancing blows on trash mobs and bosses, not completely push them off the table. So just wanna know is it hit rating or expertise? Cause I dont wanna blow a fortune on hit gems and get little to no return from them cause they are goin for almost 75g per gem.
No, he didn't miss answering your post. He just gave you more information that you actually needed (quite good information though).
Short answer:
You can no longer reduce the effect of glancing blows through raising stats.
As others have said also, you need to add more + hit to increase your raid dps. You don't need to focus completely on + hit, but also factor in + expertise, + crit, AND + AP. You need all 4 in order to do decent dps. You need to weigh the combined stats for all of those things and determine which piece gives you the best bang.
Outside of that, the only other thing to make sure of is that you do not exceed the hit and expertise caps and thus wasting stats.
Expertise Cap = 26 expertise rating (6.5% fewer parries/dodges)
Hit Cap = 363 if you have 5/5 Precision (28% hit chance)
well the reason that i started this post is because i was noticing in ZA the other day on the trash a lot of glancing blows. not just bosses. so i guess what i really wanted to know was how to reduce it on trash mobs not bosses.
Well very helpful information guys, I didnt know the expertise cap was that low.
What they are trying to say is if the mob is higher level than you you will get glancing blows, and theres nothing you can do about it. Sorry. You cant change it like I have notice at 25 man raiding level its like 20-25% (kinda crappy) but i still get great dps :)
