Q u o t e:
We had to disable summoning yesterday via emergency hotfix due to some exploits. We're hoping to re-enable summoning as soon as possible. We know it's a big inconvenience and we apologize.

On a related note, we're looking into fixing some issues with summoning that would once again enable us to allow warlocks to summon people into an instance from anywhere in the world. This could happen as soon as the next big content patch (2.4.0) if all of the technical issues can be resolved by then.

Cool, thanks (as always) Tigole for the hard work of yourself and your team.

Summoning into instances from anywhere in the world would make a lot of people happy.

Though I'm assuming tempest keep instances and the eye would still not allow summoning.

I cannot see why that would be an issue. I believe the devs would likely be more concerned with summons into Black Temple without attunement wouldn't work.

Q u o t e:
when someone would accidentally run off the wrong side of the platform in order to reset, we would usually just summon them over to the correct side and try again.

Maybe its just the asshat I am but maybe just pay attention and go off the correct side to reset?

There is more concentrated win in those few sentences than the rest of the internet combined.

We noticed the summoning issue as well last night. Hopefully you can make those changes soon, it was kinda annoying waiting for people to run back to the group. I would love it if you guys could fix the summoning into instances as well, the amount of times we've had to run out of an instance to summon a replacement for someone when we had a perfectly good warlock sitting in the group makes me love the idea of this change.

When you do address those issues, is it possible you'll be fixing summons in Netherstorm as well? I know you originally put the summon block in Netherstorm to prevent people without flying mounts from accessing the Tempest Keep instances. It seems to me this could be addressed in a less sweeping manner.

Holy @*#@, they let Tigole out of his cage again!

In before 20 billion posts of people trying to bring their pet issue to his attention, most of which will be completely unrelated to his sphere of influence within the dev team.

its because your flying mount is somewhat of an attunement to the tempest keep dungeons, no flying mount, no tempest keep

I understand why during beta they hastily just patched in a hack to prevent all summons in Netherstorm, but given they have time now to do it properly, why not have the summons verify against a flag that indicates whether the person has the ability to fly instead of having a blanket ban on summons entirely?

so why isnt this a legendary thread yet?

warlocks summoning anyone in the world from within instances is godly

no more making people wait outside instances for a spot to open in a raid... no more making 2 people go out to summon you back when you have to port to shat to get resist gear you forgot... or when you need to go get a flask or enchant on your new upgrade or whatever

absolutely incredible news

I believe the summoning is disabled to fix the exploit involving getting a druid/other stealther through the dragonhawk's trash, having someone on the other side of the platform shoot the boss to despawn him, warlock below the ramp hellfires to kill himself, druid battle rez's the lock up onto the platform and the whole raid is summoned up. In other words, completely ignoring the dragonhawk trash on a boss with a difficult timed event associated with him.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

there is a mob that sees stealth in the dragonhawk trash... he's the one with all the mini dragonhawks around him...

Thank God my ZA group did it on Sunday, and we won't likely be going back until Friday.

I hope Summons are fixed by then.

If only it were that easy... a lot of the pulls actually require rogues to stealth and sap before pulling. Making the mobs see invisible classes makes the trash even more harder for people getting through.

The best thing to do would be to fix the boss despawning, or put a group of mobs as the very last trash pull that can see through invisible.
