It does seems to run a little bit better. I don't knwo if anyone else has the system monitor gadget running or not in the sidebar, but it idles very low now. It idled at about 10% processor usage before. Now it sits at about 1 to 2%. The RAM usage is lower as well. Dropped about 20%. Maybe they are fixing bugs!

Wow runs OK so far on RC2 for me. A tad bit of screen tearing / choppyness when it first loads, but it smooths back out once it is running for a minute. I assume as with anything Windows related, more RAM would probably fix this for me. The framerate is slightly lower than on XPSP2. I get 30 to 40 fps on RC2 where I was getting 50 to 60 on XP.

It shows promise. I look forward to the RTM.

If they have not changed the way Vista operates on memory caching, Vista takes about 5 minutes to therally warm up, if you check your Performance tab on Vista, once the "Free" memory is hit 0, then it should run nominally, with the assumption you run WoW directly after you log in.

And Datth, even though the link for RC-2 did work once, it appears to be broken when I access it.

It looks like that link got disabled. I'll have to resurrect the old thread until everyone can get on RC2.

I think it may be closed to the general public (random guess), though I already have the ISO for it, which was good since 5728 was going haywire for me.

Well...

I managed to download RC2. Installed it as an update to my RC1 (which worked really well, with some very minor issues) and when I logged into WoW, I got the "unknown" mobs issue. 30 seconds later, Blue Screen Of Death. So I said, let me wipe the machine and start over. Deleted the partition, re-installed. No change.

Funny thing, is that if I didn't get the BSOD, I would get disconnected from WoW and would then lose all network connectivity. So I looked for the other posts with this problem and found the one with the "Disable Checksum Offload". There were about 8 versions of that for my ethernet controller. I set them all to disabled. That didn't help either.

In case your curious about hardware:
- EVGA Nforce 4 (using onboard ethernet)
- Nvidia 7800 GT (non-SLI)
- AMD 64 3700
- 2 gb RAM

For now, I'm backing up the partition. I'll be reinstalling XP for the short term until either NVIDIA comes up with a patch, Microsoft patches or Vista goes gold.

Oh well.

Chumpee, I think the default Windows Vista drivers should already have them as disabled by default. Have you tried deleting your temp files such as the WDB/WTF/Interface folders? Also UAC may prevent the game from writing temporary data. Try turning it off to see if it helps.

WoW seems to be killing my network stack.

A little more detail on the problem:

After logging on for the first time into World of Warcraft after a fresh install I get disconnected right away. After that the entire network stacks seems to have died and won't function again until I reboot. After restarting my computer I find that I can login to WoW, but after about 5 seconds my computer freezes and reboots out of no where. This issue is on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista RC2.

I did get the game to run for about 20 minutes once, but then it crashed again given the same issue with the network stack.

Game worked great under RC1. I find it very interesting that there are all these issues under RC2.

My Specs:
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (AM2)
Motherboard: ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe (nForce 570 SLI)
Memory: 2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 7900GT 256MB
Hard Drive(s): 160GBx2 Western Digitial SATA II 3GB/s in RAID 0
Windows Vista RC2 32-bit and 64-bit

Note that installation of the nvidia forceware 96.33 drivers for Windows Vista RC1 under RC2 doesn't give me 3D acceleration on Windows Vista RC2 64-bit. I didn't actually test this, since other games work great with the driver provided with Windows Vista installation.

I can confirm this issue on Windows Vista RC2 32-bit and 64-bit.

Hope that helps!

That's strange that your network stack died starting RC2. People were reporting that issue on RC1 initially (on nForce chipsets) but I haven't experienced mine dying. When I left my computer this morning, it was still reformatting. Hopefully I can try it out tonight during my raid and see how it goes.

Same horrendous framerate that I was seeing in RC1 and build 5728. I'm getting approx 17fps just mooching around SW dropping to 6fps and lower in 40-mans. Every now and then I get the "cannot access 3d acceleratiom" message.

Currently running on:

P4 3.06
1 gig RAM
GeForce 7600 GS 512mb
Audigy SE

I'm playing at 1280x1024 minimum graphic options. Lowest AA and anisotropic and all sliders to left except viewing distance (can't stand that fog)

Using standard Vista driver. Tried the Nvidia driver, even worse.

Come on Nvidia, sort it out.

Just a hint, I would recommend doing a Department of Defense (DoD) wipe on a hard drive before installing Vista (can't update on a unpartitioned drive) to eliminate the possibly of WIndows loading corrupt parts of the current partition, not probable but very possible.

AMD Opteron 275 (x2)
2x GeForce 7900GTX
2x 36.7gb SATA Raptor HDs in Raid 0 (onboard raid)
Logitech G15 keyboard and MX518 mouse
Creative X-Fi Platinum (audio seems to be ok, but I don't have the game music turned on - have winamp in the background)

Short list of my issues:
- Can login to WoW, but get disconnected after about a minute - today I was seeing graphical tears and glitches before I got dropped (I may not have the video drivers installed yet, I just reformatted again last night)
- if I get disconnected from WoW, my entire internet connection dies and I have to reboot to restore it, if I attempt to restore the connection I get a bluescreen and have to reboot.
- If I attempt to run other games (Diablo II, FEAR, Titan Quest), I get an error message that a D3dxxx.dll is missing (I'll try to grab a screenshot next time)

I have an integrated NIC (two of them, actually -- 2nd is disabled, though). I'll probably end up buying a PCI NIC until this can get sorted out...I've missed 3 raids already and that makes me a saaaad panda :(

I have tried it on 3 systems

System 1 P4 3.6 EE 2gb ram WD300gb SATA drive (XP partition) WD80GB Vista RC2

ATI850XL AGP

Vista Installed with no issues, wow installed with no Issues. Frame rate at 1680*1050 maxed setting. Most open areas around 59.9 60 in IF drops to 30-40 range. In MC or BWL during full raid again everything maxed out, has dropped as low as 8 but sits around 40-50 with out any issues. I run a ton of mods with no issues.

Dell Latitude 610 1gb of ram 40gb HD

Installed no issues, wow installed no issues, runs okay about the same as XP, frame rate hovers in the 10-30 range. New zone loading is again about the same as XP. But is stable with out issue.

System 3

MSI AW2 MB (forgot exact model) Nvidia SLI16 chipset.
FX62 AW2 processor
Dual 7900gtx video cards in SLI mode
Creative Audigy 2
2gb ram

Installed Vista 64
First Issue Creative drivers would not install tried the RC1 drivers, I got an unsigned driver and would not load them.
Nvidia RC1 video drivers would not load, system would be stuck with 1/2 loaded drivers.
Reinstalled stayed with base Vista Driver
Ran wow constant BSOD soon as charchter loads
error in nvm64*60.sys
Pulled the 7900gtx and replaced them with an ATI1950XTX (going into my other system when the MB and processor arrive)
Installed the Catalyst RC1 drivers.

Wow ran fine even in BWL in the supression room sat at 60FPS at 1680*1050 everything maxed.

So still seams the Nvidia drivers are suspect, I saw a lot of people complaining about the nvidia drivers and they not installing correctly. I tried extracting them manualy from the second partition, although this seamed to work and allowed the nvidia driver installation to continue. Soon as Vista started I got the unsigned driver warning and WoW BSOD's with irg_notless...etc..etc

I'll wait till nvidia gets some stable drivers out and try it again. I am concerned with the poor Creative support for Vista.

Seams right now there is no issue with ATI. Soon as my new system is complete I will try Vista on the new box and see how it goes with wow.

This is a known issue with the Nvidia drivers, the reason you are seeing the no 3d acceleration is due to the driver not completing the install after reboot.

You will find info here http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?p=873251 on how to get the install to complete. Although this is for RC1 it works in RC2 or, just boot in repair mode and delete the nvlddmkm.sys file and it should reboot and try to reinstall the drivers and complete.

One thing not to do is if you select (do not restart) after you tried the driver install and get prompted that this application did not install correctly try these settings...etc..etc box. If you select to try that, you are really going to be hurting.

Oh I saw someone mention latency. One thing that can cause this is if you run a home network, and depending on what switch/router you have it may not like IPV6 in the IP stack. I had this issue, simple way around this, turn off auto discovery and just uncheck IPV6.

The charcteristics I saw of this issue went along these lines.

Log on latecy about 43ms, after 2 minutes, about 300 after 5 minutes about 800 after 10 minutes about 3000 then disconected.

I would have a similar issue, a reboot would not fix the issue my DSL modem from Speak easy a broadxent from creaive (shudder) would be locked right up, and would require a reset.

After I unchecked IPV6 and turned off auto discovery, latency would hover from 46-60 in MC about 145 in bwl 140-160 and would peek around 230.

I also forgot to mention that during my testing of playing WoW on Vista RC2, it would sometimes, not only disconnect, but my computer would just reboot.

I have no idea why WoW is causing these issues, but I'm not experiencing this issue with any other software.

Upgraded from RC1 to RC2 with no problem, hoping it would fix graphical performance. It's worse.

ATI drivers need to be updated. It's the only thing I can think of that's causing this.

Also, Creative's driver must be shot too. At completely random points (could be when I'm loading, could be 3 hours after I've been playing) my speakers pop and crackle and I lose all sound.

I run a 3.00 GHz Intel processor, with 2.0 GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon x800xl and a Creative SB Audigy.

Leave feedback with on your company's site if you're experiencing driver problems. It's the only way they'll get updated versions to us, if they see the need.

I came home last night and my Vista x64 installation was finished, so I tried Naxxramas. The game was still running off of my Windows XP configuration and is in 4x AA/Windowed+Maximized mode so I got a bit of a low FPS. 10-20 was the number while raiding.
