When 2.4 is released on PTRs should we post UI issues in the test forums or is better to post them here?

As the author of PoM Tracker I REALLY hope these new events will give Prayer of Mending (priest spell) some sort of identifier so that my mod as well as healing/damage meter addons can actually track the spell caster efficiently.

As it is right now, I, the priest cast PoM on a warrior, when he gets hit the event you see in the combat log is "Prayer of Mending heals warrior for xxxx"...and then the next message is "Rogue receives Prayer of Mending" That is why you always see main tanks having like 100k healing done after boss fights ect... It's kind of annoying

Q u o t e:
Very interesting, although this confuses me:

Questions:

1. Why 5 minutes? Most raid boss fights nowadays are 10 minutes, so I don't see addons taking any advantage of that feature since they won't have access to much more than half the fight.

2. Does "by default" mean that users/addons can increase the retention time?

3. Will the data be retained server-side, or client-side?

5 minutes is better than the 5 seconds you have now...

I imagine it only gets worse when there are two or more healing priests in the raid -- whose PoM jumped to whom? This is the kind of thing I'm hoping the new combat log sorts out -- I've been getting trashed on the healing charts for a while now, even though the melee is apparently doing 100k+ healing per encounter. It'd be nice to me & the other Holy priest in our raid if we could due credit :)

And the druids & shaman of course, our brothers-in-arms.

Yeah, it is a real pain, I basically lock in the initial target, say..player1, once I see player1 healed himself from Prayer of mending I see if anyone has received it .5 seconds before or after (sometimes a person will receive it before the first player loses it per my tests with me as the only priest casting it). If anyone got it, I just assume they are the next jump point...as the only priest it works fine...with multiple priests it can be an issue when there are a few PoMs bouncing around and healing people all at the same time...there is just no way around it.

Is there any chance of grabbing that id for the unit using a UnitXXX command? I'm thinking something like UnitID('player') and UnitID('party2target')...

I'm fairly sure that the answer to this is, or will be 'No'.. Having said that, you can likely figure out a lot of those associations just by looking at the combat events in combination with the current world state.

Not sure if I should ask for this here or in the 2.3 thread...

2.3 added a "possession" bonus bar to the default UI's actionbar. Works like a stance/shapeshift bar, but moves the pet bar to the actionbar when you're directly controlling another unit. This also uses the "new" action IDs 121-130 (maybe 132?)

Anyway, it's really cool, but there is no secure header driver thingy to duplicate this in an actionbar addon... which basically means that addons can't provide a complete replacement for the default UI now.

Could we please get a state driver for "possession stance"?

Tekkub-

I already added that one to the UI suggestions thread, but I see no reason not to mention here too.

I'm not sure why everyone is concerned about the "possession" stance. If I remember correctly, it's simply an actionbar page change, right?

Well it has it's own event, and it's handled by the BonusActionBar whereas the pages are handled by the main ActionBar.

I'll poke the page change driver and see if they pop up in there and report back.

*edit*

It is NOT a page.
GetActionBarPage() does not change when the poss bar is up.
GetBonusBarOffset() changes to 5 when the poss bar is up.

Oh, right, so it's a bonus bar. There isn't already a state driver for the bonus bar? It seems like there should be... :)

Not unless it's a numbered stance ([stance:-1]?). We have the resources to change the page to use the new action slots...what we need is a trigger to recognize when we should.

As Alestane says, there are stance and page drivers, but not a "bonus bar" driver. I tested with the stance driver, and didn't every find one that triggered on possession. Tuller tested too, and I trust him with the drivers more than me (they still cause me brainpain).

So, whatcha say, add something to the stance driver for "possession stance"? It seems the theme is things handled by the bonus bar are "stances" and things handled by the main bar are "pages", so I'd call the thing a stance.

*edit*
Hrm, negative stance? didn't test that one, or 0 (there isn't a 0 stance right now I think)... Let me play with it some more and see if I find something I've not been seeing...

*ededitit*
GetShapeshiftForm() returns 0 when not in a stance/shape both when possessing and not.

I would like to second (third? forth?) the possess idea. I wouldn't mind just seeing a [possess] condition to change driver states. And this would also let the macro people create macros based on possession.

Q u o t e:
Combat Log Revamp!
[pre]
-- Object type constants
-- Affiliation
COMBATLOG_OBJECT_AFFILIATION_MINE = 0x00000001;
COMBATLOG_OBJECT_AFFILIATION_PARTY = 0x00000002;
[...]

Note that you can change filters on the fly and re-query previous combat log entries, which are retained for 5 minutes by default.
This is ridiculously awesome.

I'm assuming these constants are ANDed when appropriate? I assume we can expect to never have "impossible" situations, tho? (0x00000050 would be Friendly and Hostile)

Or is that what you meant to imply when you mentioned everything in 0x00010000 and higher are non-exclusive (that lower values ARE exclusive?)

Being able to re-parse logs is awesome, too.

Thanks!!

I believe this is intentional. Sending all the events associated with regular mana regen (mp5) and the like would have a significant impact on network load. As it stands now, the server only has to broadcast events for when a unit moves to a new percentage point of remaining mana, a much less frequent occurrence.

this can't be the case, because on every mana/energy regen tick, the amount of mana you have (an exact, absolute number client side) IS updated, thus sct, for example, is able to show normal spirit mana regen anyway by watching for when mana changes. putting this in the combat log would be a purely client-side change, and I can certainly see it being made optional in order to reduce the size of both text log files and the in-game recall, but I don't see why they wouldn't implement it.

A feature request:

ReportPlayerIsPVPAFK() currently prints text that a player has been notified when called from addons now since 2.3. Would it be possible to pass a parameter to the function to request that is not printed? I have some complaints from users that the output from CattleProd is too verbose and filling the chat window.

Also, what would really make my day would be a return value to tell if the call was successful, or if a player has used too many of their report calls as per http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=1777966066&postId=20007202120&sid=1#5 mentioned in this post here.

I can understand a reason for not letting players call the function too many times for risk of abuse, but to let a player know if their report was successful seems reasonable. It would also help in the tuning of CattleProd and addons that are similar.
