Hi for the last 3 weeks ive had huge latency problems.

I cant do anything in game my ping starts @ 350 as soon as i log in then jumps to anywhere up to 9k then i get DCed.

Tonight its been sitting on 7k and i have been Dced over 10 times so ive given up on trying again tonight.

I have uninstalled all my mods, Renewed my IP , Flushed my DNS restarted my computer restarted my modem everything i have read up on here but nothing seems to help.

If any1 can help it would be great

Thanks.

Also i can play a different online game on the same PC and get a ping of 300-350 and no Dces at all (Im In Australia and the server for the other game is in America also)

Syferr,

When there are connectivity problems it is important that we have a good idea of how your network is set up so we can factor in everything when diagnosing the problem. First though, restart the computer and the modem. Leave the modem unplugged as well as a router if you have one for 5 minutes. Let the modem boot up first, when it is finished, plug in the router. Followed by the computer.

Please list the following so we can obtain this picture:
  • Router if you have one, brand model and any additional information you may have about it.
  • Modem:
  • Any firewalls or security programs such as Norton or McAfee
  • A trace route: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=21230(be sure to take this when the problem is happening)

Syferr,

The reason the first hop timed out is most likely that there is a firewall there just preventing the information from being displayed for security purposes. Which means there could or could not be a problem there. Given the rest of the data, I doubt there is a problem there. Most likely it is fine.

The Netgear DG632 has a router built into it, you may want to investigate how to forward ports though it. The instruction booklet should have directions in it. However I doubt that is the problem either. The largest factor we find, with connections from your geographical location, is packet shaping. In other words your connection is being slowed down or delayed due to it having a low priority. There is only so much that can be sent though the cables across the ocean, sometimes companies de-prioritize game traffic.

All of this information looks fine, the jump into the 200s in the trace route is normal, given your location. Let's try to factor in what times of day the latency seems to occur at and if it changes at other times of data as well as take a trace directly to the realm to see if the path changes and anything shows up.

Please take a trace route to your realm rather then the logon server for this issue using the netstat command so we can see the path you take to the realm since the problem appears to be realm specific.

  • Start WOW login to the realm you normally play on.
  • Press ALT-TAB to minimize WoW and return to the desktop.
  • Click Start then Run, then type "cmd"
  • In the DOS window type "netstat"
  • Wait until the command prompt appears again, (approx 1 minute)

You will see an IP address connected on port 3724. It will look like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3724 this is your connection to Blizzard.
Now perform a trace route to that IP address to map the route you take to the realm.
  • Go to Start/Run
  • Type "cmd" to bring up the DOS window in the Run command box.
  • Type "tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx > "C:\trace.txt" in the DOS window
  • Wait for the command prompt to appear again, about 1 minute.

Now the file called trace.txt should hold the trace route you took to the realm.

Hi I am also in Australia and with Dodo Internet and have been having same problems. Sometimes it is playable mostly is not. My modem/router (built in) is a Netgear DG834v3 and I have updated its firmware. I have also done all of the other suggestions on these forums with nothing working. The only antivirus on is AVG and windows firewall with the firewall setup to let in wow programs via the Tech support pages. I have a tracert of mine when i was standing in Shattrath with about 3000 latency and the trace done to the realm as in the above posts. Looking for a answer please this has gone on for over 3 weeks.

If you play on US West or Oceanic there won't be a difference. Maybe a small one. But not really, As for dodo. It has been known to be untrustworthy. Thats why I use Bigpond. Sure it costs more. But its WELL worth the money :)

Note the capitals on REAL. As in a realm actually hosted this side of the globe. ;) Don't mind me, I'm so annoyed over the last year with the latency getting worse and worse I've resorted to simply annoying where I can in the vain hope that one day maybe we will witness sub 500ms (reliably) pings in Australia.

Its not just Dodo, its Primus, in SA for me, as well. Im currently in the process of trying to figure this problem out with Primus, Blizzard and using Whirlpool Forums, Ive gotten some advice from a Primus rep on there , still an ongoing problem though, nothing Ive done has changed it.

The information in the Blizzard post is similar to what Im getting from everyone else, and the basic consensus is suck it up at the moment. Hopefully though, this acknoledgement of an issue that other people have been reporting for a while, means its going to be looked into, and omg maybe fixed?!

My thread is mouldering down around page 6 by now, pushed down there by similar ones, this is the first Ive seen with this kind of answer, thanks be to you buddy.

Ive also posted on my realm forums, trying to round up some other people in the same boat, my guild forums, where Ive gotten some good but ultimately unhelpful advice, and I even went on a rampage through Customer Service forums the other day lol. Theres not alot that can be done right now, so hold tight and know you arent the only one.

One thing to be thankful for? Im whining about 5k latency as my all time worst, yours is 7- lucky me! Heh :)

Well hopefully their actually going to be bringing some fixes next patch then, unlike all the bugs brought in with the last two. I don't think I've seen the support forums this busy for quite a while.

Yah most replies I get from people, especially in Adelaide because thats who Im most interested in asking, are Im fine, nothings changed recently that I have noticed.
My partners boss lives just near us, and he sits on a yellow or green, 2-300 max, yet we are crashing, disconnecting, timing out, lagging etc all over the shop.

I dont think its nationwide at all, just some carriers, in some places, which is what makes it so hard to narrow down, for anyone I speak to. Did they all buy a batch of dodgy lines and distribute them randomly about the place when they were doing "upgrades?" Im not asking for a magic wave of the wand to get things fixed, I just want to understand what I and others with the same difficulties can do, to help our ISP's to help us get back on a stable, playable connection to Blizzard's servers.
