Without some sort of tracking indicating who this person was, this is a terrible service for pugs and guilds. Posting a known ninja's name was the only defense people had against bad players. Now this has been taken away.

Blizzard's solution? Put them on your ignore list, and I assume, add a player notes add-on to indicate what they did.

Lame.

Of all things they could have done, paid race change, paid faction change, paid locale change, this is the change with the most potential harm, and the one benefits the community the least.

So since our only way to keep track of who has changed names it to add them to ignore, the number of people we are allow to ignore is going to be increased, right?

Yes, it does update with name change.

^ Reference to Armory Tracking Names^

Which spawns the question, if peeps change their name, does the old name become available since it is technically no longer being used? Or does it go to the ever growing list of "previously used names"? I have created toons for the sole purpose of reserving a name, then when I was ready to use that name, I would delete the toon and create another right away.

If peeps change their toon name, and that name has bad karma associated with it, then some hapless nub buys the game with his hard earned lawn mowing money, sits down at his Dad's computer with DSL and installs this game to get "interactive" with the world, only to find out the name he picked, though available, has a reputation and the kid is scarred for life... hehe, Slippery Slope is fun.

As for the Armory, if the name is recycled, then two people can have the same name, one marked as active, one as previously used. After several name cycles, all sorts of peeps would have a history of this name, so which person was the ninja at what time? My head hurts, gonna go lie down now...

Every three months...

Which would be perfect because all the person would have to do is lay low after a big heist. Things die down, people tend to forget other then those imeadiatly effected, and another guild could become prey to this person's malicious activities. They won't have any way of checking up on this person if the armory didn't have a name history listing added.

B/c there are many people who have ninja'd, acted like a jerk, etc.
Or have alt-ish names on characters who are growing beyond the stand-by-the-AH-mailbox levels.

You know, every MMO that's implemented name changes has had the same fuss come up when the announcement was made. Within a few months, the fuss always dies down as the doomsayers' predictions don't come true...

Honestly, if someone's as much of a loser as you're looking out for, I'm sure their new identity would be known pretty quick by the whole server.

I understand that Blizzard has to make some money (cause they aren't making enough now emirite?) but this decision is stupid

I have so many people on my ignore list from either them ninja'ing something, or just because they are complete morons. I know for a fact that a few will change their name because they have a bad reputation. I don't want to have to re-ignore every single one of them again or have to deal with their crap again just because you allowed them to change their name

You're one of those people who *likes* the fact that your and everyone else's rights are being taken away, because a tiny portion of the population does bad things. Aren't you.

Since you guys are allowing paid name changes, please add the name log feature into the armory to let us see what names they've had before. Otherwise ninjas and guild bank thieves will be running rampant for only 10 dollars.

this is true Blizzard. If you are going to do something over 'popularity' make it for those who want to do it because they did a character with the 'automatic name creation' and now want some sort of personal name and DON'T do it for the people this guy is talking about.

Think this process through please. Don't just add it.

It is locked for 90 days and then becomes available after that point in time.

Also, please note. My suggestion earlier about perhaps putting a ninja on your ignore list helping was merely that, a suggestion. It was by no means meant as 'the solution' that people are quoting it as.

I understand that people are going to focus on the negatives of what could happen, but I have a feeling the fears people are expressing are a bit exaggerated and unlikely to come to fruition. We will of course monitor the effects this has on the community and make any additional changes as we feel are warranted.

It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.

Most 12 year olds don't have access to spending 10 dollars through electronic means (credit cards, etc)

That should help slightly.
