I've played this game for years... I love WoW and honestly this has been bugging me since my first 70 was in her wee 10's or 20's. And before this is recatigorized to the 'suggestion' forum, I would like to make the point that I put it here intentionally.

This is a customer service issue. This game (as much as I love it) has made assumptions about color-prominence that are outright damning to some players. Blizzard I ask you to please add a color-preference for the in-game functions that are not modifiable by addons. Specifically, for anyone remotely color-blind the ring around a mob/players feet and name indicating its reaction, etc., can't be changed and are all but invisible depending on the color.

For a little bit of background, here's wikipedia's treatment of the topic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_blind

This is very real, its not an attempt to get an 'edge' in pvp or any such nonsense. In my example, I'm red/green color blind, and the red circle requires me to physically move my head closer to the screen in most cases to see if there's a red circle, or if I just haven't selected the mob. I can see red, but only in significant saturation.

This significanly detracts from my enjoyment of the game, and my color-blindness is considered 'mild'.

Depending on the speciic color blindness, certain colors are much more 'striking' than others... yellows, blues, greens, are all very bright and visible, people just need a choice rather than the locked-in choices.

Thank you.

**(I stuck this on the customer service forum and was roundly told that this was an 'improvement', so I suppose I'll stick it here... buried... amongst every other 'oooh I want' thought - if this gets a single blue view/response, I'll be impressed.)

I think this is reasonable. My husband is red/green color-blind, and there have been a few times back when he played that he actually had to have me come over and tell him what color something was.

Look! More sleeping people! It must be naptime! But who has naptime now? Nap time comes before pants time, not after. I think these people are just making up times.

I am also color-blind on a few colors. Trust me, it's tough to look at Blues vs Purples when they look the same color. :)

There is a Mod I use called Color Blind. What it does is add text to items and such to tell you if it's Epic, Rare, etc etc. Also to mobs for Neutral, Hostile, etc etc. You should check it out sometime.

Yeah, there are a couple mods to help with this sort of thing, unfortunately they help by adding text to a few spots that are not that bad (at least for me)... red-on-black vs green-on-black is visible, no problem. However, a red circle under a mob at 100yds against a textured earth- not a chance.

Like I said, the problem is the real problem-spots are so buried in-game that mods can't touch it.

Its actually not the portals, again, thats color-against-solid-background for the most part.... and when you move, the color shifts against the background; the circles uder mobs at a distance are simply very difficult to see, *not* distinguish from green. What that means is when you tab-target you can't see which (enemy) mob is being targetd because both the lettering and the circle is red.

Stop being a man-###** and shut the hell up, Balthior. This has nothing to do with the OP sucking, or needing to learn to play; It is a massive QoL issue that makes it so that what everyone with normal color vision can see (the red circle under a mob's feet against ground when you've selected it, given this specific example) can be seen by people with color deprived vision, so that they can actually -see properly-. Whether or not they can see the color slightly or not and/or recognize the animation for a specific maneuver is not an issue.

Note, I have perfect color vision, and still wish for this to happen.

When you live in a world where people pretend to have ADD to excuse their bad grades, or pretend to be Bi-polar so that they have an excuse to get temperamental on people... Then you factor-in the people who do have the disabilities, and rather than trying to keep themselves under control, will actually LET the disabilities run rampant because it's a "good excuse". You eventually stop caring when people have any disability of any sort.

If you're red/green colorblind then how do you ever know when Christmas is coming around!?

But seriously, lame jokes aside.... how do you know when Christmas is arriving?

NO BUT SERIOUSLY

Most other games have an option to change colors and whatnot, what exactly do you want to change? Chances are there's a UI for it.

How about its not leaning on a claimed disability as an excuse, go look at that wikipedia article, there are three squares demonstrating three flavors of blindness... For me, the bottom one is clearly 56, the middle one is barely there, given a few minutes of staring i can make out 49, the top square has *nothing* there for me despite the caption telling me I should see 37. Reds on a similar-brightness texture are simply impossible to see.

Would you complain if your game failed to indicate a mob was selected when the game was supposed to show it?

I do just fine in-game, I've got two kara-geared 70's, thats not the point, this is a just color preference made by Blizzard, and there's no reason to have it unchangeable. (Except that at the time, they didn't realize there would ever be a *reason* to change it.)

Color blindness effects people differently, like pretty much every ailment in human history. Please explain to me how changing certain colors is somehow giving preferential treatment and is 'a good excuse'. A good excuse of what?

If they add this and he still sucks then he cant say its due to that can he*? You should be for this. In any event, how does it effect you? It doesn't. Its not even a difficult or expensive request, its really simple.

Its not like Blizz are being asked asking for a braille edition here.

*BTW not really saying you suck OP.

I agree. The colors red and green are used all too often in this game, with heavy significance. I could see a "color sets" option or something along those lines being useful.

Friendly Color
Neutral Color
Hostile Color

give a selection box for all 3.
why not?

I am also red/green color blind. I can see the rings around the mobs though.

My problem is I just spent 3 stacks of Netherweave to level my tailoring and it was green instead of orange.

Can we do something about this. Maybe and asterik next to the Orange so others like myself can distinguish without making the same mistake I did.

Though a little text that indicates the color (red = hostile) (yellow = neutral) and (green = friendly) in the little side bar that always pops up when you hover over a mob would help too.

/signed. I'm not colourblind, but i think a good idea for this would maybe a downloadable blizz addon or something (so those of us who arent colourblind dont have to use this) that like labels certain colours that are hard to differentiate, or changes the colours to more distinctive colours
