I understand if you need to nerf Sacred Shield for PvP but I hope you guys can find a way keep it useful for Protection Pallys to use in PvE. Or make it a Holy talent and offer a new level 80 spell for Pallies?

Thanks!
Honestly i think it should scale with BV or something, i would love for this to stay prot(which to my understanding sounded like a prot/holy ability)

Blizz already stated its intended use is to preimarily be a tool for Holy Pallies. The baseline ability is going to get a nerf and then a deep Holy talent is going to buff it back to its current level. At least that is how it is implemented on the PTR at this time.

Yeah I get how they are going to change it. I am just a little sad they are changing our level 80 spell from a some what useful spell for all 3 specs to only useful for one spec. I know other classes have this problem with their level 80 spell but I feel Blizz should be working on making all classes level 80 spell useful for the class in general or at lest fun like the DK level 80 spell.
SS only procing once every 30 seconds is a waste of a GCD. That is not how the level 80 spell should be ... at least in my opinion.
But at the end of the day it is not that big of a deal.... just one of those things that makes the game a little more fun.
It is a level 80 spell you have to level up first. Also your level 80 spell is Army of the Dead... which if this change goes live I will trade you SS for Army of the Dead any day of the week lol.
Useful for Protection when pulling trash... ZERO use against bosses.
Useless to ALL other specs.
We get even less use of our level 80 ability as prot than you do with yours.
In a previous post I stated that I understand how other classes have the issue of their level 80 spell not being useful for all specs. What I am saying is Blizz should be moving towards making the class level 80 spell useful in general for the class regardless of spec.

Trained abilities do not need to be useful for all specs. They also do not need to be useful at the end game. Trained abilities are not meant to be useful to all specs equally. The fact you picked up an ability at level 80 means very little in whether or not all specs should like it or not. There are plenty other abilities that are trained that are useless outside of 1 spec for the class that gets them.
Its like Warriors getting Intervene as the lvl 70 ability. It was basically useless outside of PvP for an Arms or Fury warrior. It was designed to give Prot Warriors another way to close the gap between them and a mob that got loose without switching stances. Arms and Fury got very little benefit from that ability the overwhelming majority of the time.
Trained abilities do not need to be useful for all specs. They also do not need to be useful at the end game.
If a max-level spell is not useful in end-game, exactly when is it supposed to be useful? And if the answer is "never", then why bother with it at all?
Because otherwise, why bother putting it in the game at all? That seems a silly question.
Trained abilities do not have to provide the same benefit for all specs of class equally. Trained abilities are generally put in to fill a gap in the tool kit for a specific role. Sacred Shield is supposed to be a healing utility. They don't like the idea of Prot and Ret Pallies using it in PvP that much since they are already hard to kill thanks to very strong defensive abilities.
Keep up SS on yourself bro! FoL HoT ftw.
Anyways mine as a healer is reserved...
Incanter's Absorption Rank 3
When you absorb damage your spell damage is increased by 15% of the amount absorbed for 10 sec. Total spell damage increase cannot exceed 5% of your health.
arcane mages = holy pallies SS win
No more kings! Now I can boot the warrior giving battle shout and bless might!
Q u o t e: Why does it need to be "useful" for you?
Because getting new spells is part of the charm of RPGs. Each class got one novel spell at level 80 in WotLK. It just makes the game more fun and interesting to me if the current pinnacle class spell is useful for me.

If it is for Holy, then put it in the Holy tree and put something in at level 80 that the entire class can feasibly use. And I'm with the poster above: the same should apply to all classes. How big of a let-down to hit 80 and find nothing useful waiting for you at the trainer. I hit 80! WOW!!! Now I can--- do what I've been doing--- for the past 5 levels--- wee."
So prot and ret just get screwed completely, and shouldn't bother wasting gold to learn a crap-useless spell? Good design there!
If there is no holy paladin in the raid, then prot paladins currently receive a huge amount of extra mitigation versus the other tanks.
At the moment this is coming to you completely free, and it's overpowered. Prot paladins without any ret paladins or holy paladins in the raid are hugely, obscenely overpowered compared to other tanks.
That blizzard is fixing this just means you got away with being OP in some circumstances before. It's not hurting you in any way.
Prot is still far superior to other tanks if there's no holy or ret paladin in the raid. Luckily for you guys, it's assumed that there are other paladins in your raid.
