Browsing the WoW general forums the past couple days, i have noticed more and more about the *****storm call the auto-DE feature coming in 3.3. Enchanters feel that, with this change, they will start to lose out on shards, and that the other people that are grouped with them are getting the benefit of their hard earned profession without their say.

The supporters of this change think that it is for the good of the masses, and that overall it will make things more simpler and better for everyone. So what if some enchanters will lose out on the shards? Or that enchanters will be forced to use their profession in cross-realm groups. In the end it helps out more people and makes things similar. The masses > the minority.

This just strikes me as very similar to the real world and politics. On one side, we have the enchanters, who think that their profession, which they spent gold and time on leveling up and using, should not to be used for the benefit of others without the enchanter's say, and that while everyone else is gaining a benefit of the enchanter being there, the enchanter gains no other such benefit from the other group members being there. The next time you are in a group and say on of the dps is a miner and mines a titanium ore, tell him that everyone of the group members gets to roll on the ore and gems/crystalized elements that were in the node. See what kind of reaction you get. Thats what enchanters feel. These people to me i think would lean more towards being a republican on issues, and being more conservative.

Then we have the others, who think that this change will be better for everyone, and will make things much more simpler then rolling for shards at the end. This new system would also eliminate cross-realm shard ninjas, which would run rampent if the old way was still in place. The change would be for the better of the community, and since most people are NOT enchanters then the majority would end up benefiting more with this change. And lets face it, blizzard is a company and keeping the majority happy and making changes for simpler and more efficient systems for the masses is their best bet. These people strike me as being more Democratic, and would lean more liberal on other issues.

just thought i'd like to share some of my observations with y'all, and see if anyone else kinda sees this trend.

so TL;DR Enchanters who don't want the change= republicans, and the people who love the change =Democrats.

Just something i'd like to take a tally on, see if i might be right. or retarded. One of the two.

If you equate mechanics in a video game to real life politics, well, bless your heart for figuring out how to use a computer with your obvious mental disabilities.

Drawing parallels between real life and fictional worlds makes you mentally disabled?

I think the OP only insulted you. Sorry you're so sensitive about what you read on a message board.

I don't think anything in-game can be compared to real-world political affiliations or ideology.

I am personally extremely left-wing liberal. But in game, I despise guilds, do not trust anyone, and feel that people should actually be expected to contribute. I don't oppose things like emblem gear from heroics or so-called "welfare" gear from PVP (I currently have and have in the past used such "welfare" gear"). In fact, because gear is so widely available and gold is so easy to earn, I don't think there exists any reason why someone would not be geared.

Meanwhile, I have friends who I would describe as libertarian/republican, and in game they are very pro-guild and have an attitude of share and contribute to the guild community.

Kind of odd that the people I know who are inclined to favor strong central government oppose guilds (aka socialist practice?) while the ones who have a strong sense of self and strength of the individual will do just about anything their guild tells them, and gladly hand over gold, shards, etc to the guild.

But what causes this? IMO, it is because in game we all start out equal (except for those who buy gold or get carried by someone else). My first toon was broke as hell, had no gold and no high-level alt to finance him, and had to use whatever items he could get his hands on. But I familiarized myself with the game and all the finer details, and when I leveled this toon he was backed by my former main, who had hundreds of gold (that was a lot back when TBC came out).

Granted, some people have friends who finance their very first character and never really have to "work" or "struggle". But since this is just a game and no one really "works" for anything, it ends up not mattering. By the time even the poorest toon reaches 80, he can do dalies and earn at minimum a couple hundred gold a day.

TL:DR: Ideologies in-game and in the real world don't always synch up. In the game, everyone starts out even and has the same opportunities. In the real world, this isn't the case. Some are born rich, some are born poor and never have the chance to change their status. Of course, people on the right will disagree with me on this, but I imagine they'd agree at the very least that in-game is the closest people come to equality of opportunity.

I'll be thinking "Holy crap! That's the first time I've seen Titanium in an instance!" You do know it's really only Cobalt that no one even bothers mining, right?

Besides, if Disenchanting was the only thing Enchanters could do, you'd have a valid point.

you cant compare enchanting to mining.

you could compare it to blacksmithing.

but then you wouldnt have an argument cause blacksmiths cant mine.

funny how that works eh?
