We wanted to take a moment to clarify how the Sinister Calling achievement works for Hallow’s End. The text says that both a Hallowed Helm and a Sinister Squashling pet need to be “obtained” for the achievement to be complete. More specifically, the pet needs to be learned and become part of your pet spell book for that part to be complete. The Hallowed Helm on the other hand needs to be looted by the character to fulfill that aspect of the achievement.

We apologize for any confusion in this matter and hope you enjoy the rest of Hallow’s End!

and why it's causing any confusion, I think it's pretty obvious...

except if people were trying to exploit it by trading to each other after the horseman drops them...
now that way would make sense. because, on brewfest, people who got the mount could trade them out after getting the achievements (brewFAST and have keg), and the person who learned it would also get the achieves

Yeah but you could get brewfast just from tossing hops on whatever mount. That wasn't a difficult achivement, so it hardly mattered.

I WOULD like to say that getting the achievement just for having the mount in your inventory seems a touch silly. For example, I've had the Choppa achievement for months, and I've only just this week made my own Chopper.

Gotta say this is the only achieve I need for the violet drake and its not looking so good (for the second year in a row). Do you have any plans to increase the drop rates or put in another way to obtain these items?

I don't see how that hurts anybody. You still have the same 20% chance to win it on a roll between 5 people. Someone offering to sell it instead of learn it might be perceived as rude, but it's not taking away from anyone else.

The main issue with this achievement is that it spits on the face of all the other achievements, especially those MODIFIED/DELETED from the Meta. This achievement is completed, not with mechanics, but with sheer luck. The thing has to drop before negotiations with others can happen. I would consider the squashling as a feat of strength... not a prerequisite.

Ah Bornakk... You're just REVELING in these RNG achievements.

Would it seriously kill the game to have an alternate way of attaining these RNG items? Something perhaps far more difficult? Like you have to turn in huge batches of tricky treats or some other such silly nonsense, which in and of itself could be some form of entertainment?

I still think this entire process of logging in once an hour stuff is complete nonsense. How is that 'FUN' for a group of achievements\time period that in and of itself is meant to be 'fun'? How does praying for an RNG drop from a 2 week-long boss where the main-goal is a 310% mount equate to fun? Where is the true achievement in that?

I certainly don't feel as if I've achieved anything in regards to the toothpick, sinister pet, or helm. These are not achievements. Downing a boss is an achievement... the gear from it is not.

Mind if i do a small correction?
Actually the item must be soulbound to your character. Just like it was before 3.2, but now you must wait 2 hours before you get the achievement.
In other words, you can trade the pumpkin helm, but you must wait 2 hours before the achievement is gained.

I dont know if this is intended, but its how its working right now.

This Hallowed Helm is the last item I need for the meta. I've seen it drop every day this week but I haven't won a roll for it yet. I'm starting to get a little worried. Hopefully I'll luck out and get from a treat bag.

I had the helm drop and a guidlie on an alt needed on it and decided that she'd rather give it to me. We traded it right after the boss. That was kind of pointless.

At least I got a sinister squashling and started to ask myself why I didn't get the achievement and put a ticket in.

This item should be BOP non-tradeable.

I got the achievement a year ago from trick or treating, on the 2nd to last day of the holiday

unless they took that out of the tick or treat look there is your 2nd way to get it. I also looted like 3 helms the same way even on my bank alt

Despite the existence of poorly designed, time-limited, RNG-based holiday achievements required for completion of the meta?

As an example of a secondary pathway to Achievement item acquisition that should be implemented in addition to the poorly designed, RNG-based, time-limited Holiday Achievments existing in Hallow's, I suggest something akin to the following:

In every Treat Bag (obtainable once per hour from innkeepers, if the player does not get 'tricked') add a Hallow's themed quest token -- call it an everlasting gobstopper or jeweled jawbreaker or golden gumball or whatever.

With no more than 1 token available per hour (and less on the aggregate due to being 'tricked'), a player cannot collect more than 24hr/day X14days = 336 tokens at the absolute max. Assuming 12 attempts per day, with 2 'tricks' each day, a player would collect 140 tokens during Hallow's (which seems like more than most players would have time to farm up, but lets use that as the benchmark for the somewhat ocd achievement collecting contingent).

Then add a Hallow's vendor somewhere appropriate -- perhaps undead Strath. Have the Vendor stock a full set of Hallow's items including the Squashling, Hallowed Helm, Toothpicks, a full set of Masks, the temporary Broom mounts, existing candies, and perhaps new candies with new effects, also gumdrops (ala Brewfest Hops & Winterveil Holly) and maybe even some new vanity pets (ie. Mini Wickerman - who catches on fire periodically).

Price the items in such a manner so that a player cannot realistically purchase a full set of items, but reasonably such that a few items can be purchased with diligent effort (ie. 140ish tokens). For example, the Squashling (and any other newly added minipets) might cost 75 tokens, the Hallowed Helm might cost 50 tokens, individual Masks might cost around 25 tokens, toothpicks might cost around 10 tokens and other items at lesser prices dependant on their permanency.

Such a system would not realistically allow most players to use this (hypothetical) system of Treat Bag tokens to purchase every needed item to complete the all of the Hallow's Achievements (but it might be possible for some when not factoring in the 20 mask achievement).

However, such a token system as a secondary path for item acquisition when coupled with the existing RNG-based drops would allow players to fill in any "gaps" in their item acquisition that are the result of Bad Luck. Further, the addition of new content is rarely viewed as a bad thing by the playerbase.

What's more, the implementation of such a secondarty system for Hallow's item acquisition in addition to the existing RNG based system would quench the well deserved criticisms of the existing system and thus be a win for Blizzard and for the playerbase.

Might be worth some consideration....

Edit: Such a system would also eliminate the probability nightmare that is reached after a player obtains 17-19/20 of the Mask collection. Instead of being subjected to duplicate after duplicate on the already meager drop rate for Masks, a player would have the option of purchasing a few Masks to complete a collection -- but if priced properly, a player would not be able to purchase an entire set of Masks during a single season. Using the above numbers-> 25 tokens/Mask and 140 tokens = 5.6 masks. Even at 336 tokens (theoretical max) that's 13.44 masks.

You can also get it from the Squashing Pumpkin daily at the various starter towns when the Horseman is defeated after setting the town on fire.

I think people are just stressing over this (and maybe the toothpick achievement) like I am because we've invested a lot of time to get this far. We don't want to be screwed over by the RNG after busting our butts on just over 70 other achievements needed (not counting the metas for each season) on top of being set back for an entire year. I personally would hope that Blizzard went back and removed Be Mine! from Fool for Love as well as Sinister Calling and That Sparkling Smile from Hallowed Be Thy Name. Then the stress from things outside of players control would be alleviated.

I also want to say I am not against RNG in general. I am just against it when used under such a restrictive timeframe with these circumstances. I would hold this opinion wether I had the What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been completed or not. I know some of the stress it's caused me trying to get it, and I think that others most likely (by the posting going on) feel somewhat similar, it is actually starting to ruin the fun of the game.

For me its about having some measure of control over one's own destiny. Being reliant on luck hardly seems appropriate for completion of an achievement that can only be completed during multiple time limited periods over the course of a year, and which require a year-long wait for another opportunity at completion.

With a fresh start this seaseon, I've got my Squashling and my Hallowed Helm and my Headless Horseman's mount.

Yet, thus far, I am 0/37 Treat Bags dropping Toothpicks.

If I have my math correct, and assuming a 10% drop rate, there's only a 2.02% probability of not obtaining any Toothpicks after opening 37 bags.

Good times. >.<
