It makes me rather sad the way new players are treated in wow. They are insualted, looked down on, and scared away by people that have been playing long enough that they feel that they are superior to new player. I really don't understand how people can be so mean to people just asking for help, Not all people come into Wow automatically knowing all the mechanics of the game, I know I didn't when i started back a couple months before BC.

I remember when I first started people were not as jaded, they were more than willing to help someone new, and I don't mean "hey heres free stuff" I mean people that would tell you where you should go, how to improve quality of life... Now all I see are people basically telling these new player to F-off and frankly that is unacceptable, These new player should be treated the same as you would have wanted to be treated when you started. I'm not saying hold their hand though everything, but someone new to a game like Wow does need some direction.

If you are one of those people who are horrible to new player....be ashamed! If you are a nice person like me and the people I enjoy playing with and offer help to those who ask it Hats off to you...we are a dieing breed.

You can't fix stupid...but eradicating it is close enough...

List of things that erode the WoW community:

* Population
* Too many servers
* Internet anonymity
* Mainstream advertising and the crowd it brings
* Server transfers
* Name changes
* Lack of ninja punishment
* PUG raids
* Elitism (raids, gear or arenas)
* The forums

Feel free to add.

Oops. >_<

Hey I ran my arse over to razor hill and gave someone a whole set of new bags and 20g for their mount. I have assuaged my guilt, now I can be a jerk for the next few days and feel OK. :D :D :D

Last night, I did Heroic UP since it was the daily. I was going to tank even though I'm not specced for it and I'm rocking all PvP gear. However, we found a DK who said he could tank it at the last minute. When the DK joined the group he had 21k health, I figured he just hadn't changed specs and gear yet. Once we get there he pulls the first two mobs, takes tons of damage, and on top of that all DPS have pulled aggro, but we survive it. He pulls the next pack of trash (4 mobs) and basically gets two shot and then complains to my friend, the healer.

I'm all for helping out newer players, but when someone new blames his mistakes on another player that has been playing for a longer period of time, he doesn't deserve any courtesy.

I have just come back from a long break (3 years) while I get entrenched into my doctorate, but has the game changed?

I remember dragging some green geared level 60 who was new, but willing to learn along to MC

Do people not have the patience to teach people like they were themselves helped by someone else?

Really? Is that even needed here? OMG he's got crafted gear instead of the TOC @!!#! Anything they say is null and void and they should just /uninstall.

Honestly, I feel horrible for the way new players are treated as well.

I help these people out all the time. I have even given money occasionally, if they weren't greedy about it. If they didn't know where something was I would tell them about the guards who tell you where everything is, and take you there. I would be happy to take lowbies who can benefit from the gear on runs I am doing to finish acheivements.

I took a level 62 mage and a group of 80 hunters with no healer into SM and tanked HHM. Not that this is an achievement, but it was for the 62 mage. I also gave out my wands for free, even if someone offered to pay. It gave everyone there another chance at what they needed for this year.

I practice tanking in the easier heroics and take new 80s so they can learn. I pop my bot when people need repairs, fish feasts etc. I have gotten quite a few guildies that way. I hope they stay and help us get to raiding again, but if they don't then it wasn't meant to be.

What I find annoying are the people that want to do fast heroics with all newly minted 80s. They have no chance to learn how to do stuff at level cap for raiding.

Now if I could just get me a trainable raid healer...

Yea and how many times have I been burned by some would be noob only to find out later on all of the friends and 80's he has? So many times that it has turned me completely off on trying to help other people.

I will though, if the mood strikes me but only for a little bit.

Based on all the "Im a new tank and you people are mean" QQ threads we've seen, I'm guessing there are a lot of people waiting to tell you that you and your friend are scrubs, that 21k is more than enough health, and that it is in fact everyone but the poorly geared tank's fault.

when a player asks a question in /2 and gets nothing but troll replies it does seem pretty bad. but what you do not see is the players such as myself sending the asker actual helpful information in /w. i always help out people if i can, and i know a lot of others who do as well.

while the community looks really bad on the surface, underneath its still pretty nice.

it depends on the player, really.

Some behave like they would in RL, being a miser or rude because they do not know better. Some, are kind souls, who help, even at their own expense.

New players would be wise to learn quickly, that not everyone will help them. But, just as likely, not everyone will be rude.

A high leveler will get PM's in Stormwind for runs through Stocks. As a paladin, its almost an endless stream of requests. Yes, sometimes, I will get say "Level 80 Tank doing Stocks, send PM for invite." And I'll take four people with me. Stockades isn't so bad as say....Sunken Temple.

As a Armorsmith, if I have the mats, I can make the gear for newbies. Generally, that would take about 20-30 minutes of my time to farm the needed mats (unless I buy them off the AH for rediclous prices).

The thing I do give the most, is actually related to my title:

Exactly.

The rude people think it's okay to be rude, because that's what they're used to doing and that's what they're used to seeing.

The rest of us, and I believe we're still the majority, give the "rudes" a silent /facepalm IRL and then actually help people.
