Yeah, having it not stand out for something so rare definitely made the auction costs vary a lot.
Some valid points have been brought up. I just think its very interesting that this one item, of all things had to be made purple. It will certainly clear things up as far as which bird is rare and which one is not, but sufficed to say nobody's going to find a bargain priced Hyacinth Macaw in the AH from now on.
You'd think other rare and uncommon boe pets would also be improved to green or blue quality so that they could be properly rolled on in groups.

Soooo - I farmed this up actually last month - two weeks - and pretty much the 10k pirates it will generally drop in (roughly a 1 in 10k drop rate - if you believe that stuff)!
NOW - why is it that the stupid oozeling - which I have farmed for on different toons - since its release - killing about 20k+ slimes and opening thousands of bags - wont drop!!!

also - Not sure if it was you Win but this very morning i believe someone sold the bird for 12k something or other.
I found one on the AH for 4,000g a few weeks ago. I snagged it and within an hour or so, I had doubled my money by selling it for 8,000 through /trade.
That said, that was the first time I had seen it as an epic item. Needless to say, its a pretty nifty change.

Yeah, I woke up at the dark side of dawn one Sunday long ago, logged into IF to see an unguilded lvl 40ish lock spamming Trade to sell it for 3g or so. I grabbed it up immediately and learned it. Wish my main had it now, lol.
