So last night I was digging around some bags on one of my bank alts, and I noticed that the Hyacinth Macaw pet I've been saving is now of epic quality?? This is obviously going to make it more valuable than it already was, but has anybody else wondered why they made this particular pet epic?

All I can think of is that its the last truly rare and difficult boe pet that drops in the world. I can't believe they made it epic though. Has there ever even been an epic companion pet?

they made it epic because its the rarest (still obtainable) pet out there. Just because they made it epic does not make it more expensive (ie changing the text color to purple)

Edit: it was just a way for them to show that it is one of the most rare pets.

I believe the Hyacinth is the first epic-quality pet.

They most likely made this change for characters who wouldn't otherwise know just how rare the bird is... you know, the folks who might list it in the AH for 1-2g.

There are people out there that are like that (ur previous post)

It is of my opinion they made it epic quality to show relatively new players that is, in fact, very rare. This also allows for it to be rolled on, if one, hypothetically, were grouped up when questing in this area, thus unable to be "ninja'd" from a party member (or even swindled away from a new player by an experienced one).

I am sure it was so players didn't haphazardly learn, delete, or vendor (if you can vendor a pet) the bird without some careful consideration.

This pretty much. People tended to mistake it for one of the more common parrot-type pets.

I actually have this on my Hunter. I found it by killing a few pirates in STV, and I wanted to keep it.. for some reason. But I never used it, and when my guildy wanted it (for free, he told me it was worthless) I used it in front of him. :D

Although I never play it anymore.
